Choithram Memorial Hospital in Freetown is set to bring life-changing healthcare to Sierra Leoneans with the announcement of a Free Surgery Camp scheduled from December 9 to December 14, 2024. This initiative will provide free cleft lip and palate surgeries, ensuring access to specialized treatment for those who may otherwise be unable to afford it.
Heading the surgical team is the highly renowned Professor (Dr.) Bayo Aluko-Olokun, an acclaimed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon from Abuja, Nigeria. Known for developing the groundbreaking Olokun-Olaitan technique for cleft lip and palate repair, Dr. Aluko-Olokun will partner with Choithram Memorial Hospital’s own Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Eric Wongo. Along with a skilled team of medical professionals from Sierra Leone and Nigeria, the collaboration promises to deliver world-class surgical care to patients in need.
The surgery camp welcomes new patients requiring initial procedures as well as those in need of follow-up surgeries. By offering these services free of charge, Choithram Memorial Hospital reaffirms its mission to eliminate financial barriers and ensure that every Sierra Leonean has the opportunity to access essential healthcare.
Dr. Gowrinath M. George, Medical Superintendent of Choithram Memorial Hospital, expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Aluko-Olokun and his team’s involvement in this significant initiative. “This is a rare opportunity for many Sierra Leoneans to receive critical surgeries that will transform their lives. We encourage everyone who qualifies to take advantage of this free service,” he said.
Adding to the hospital’s list of achievements, Choithram Memorial Hospital recently enhanced its capabilities by commissioning a state-of-the-art MRI machine in January 2024.
Harish Agnani, Chief Administrator of the Choithram Group, emphasized that this upgrade reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing advanced medical services to Sierra Leoneans. “Our goal is to deliver comprehensive, cutting-edge healthcare to the community and the Free Surgery Camp is another example of this dedication,” Harish Agnani noted.
Registration for the Free Surgery Camp began on November 6, 2024. Interested patients or their families are encouraged to call +232 76 541 331 or visit Choithram Memorial Hospital at Hill Station, Freetown, to secure a spot.
