Childfund, a long time operating Non-Governmental Organization entity recently donated learning materials to boost the Free and Quality Education to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Alpha Timbo, at their Hill Station Office on Monday.

Making the donation the acting Country Director of ChildFund, Alhaji Alpha Kamara said that to complement the effort of the Government they have decided to donate 15,200 packages of quality learning materials that the same number of students will make use of in the operational Districts.

He said ChildFund has been working assiduously in Sierra Leone to improve the lives of children and pupils around the country, and they will not relent but will continue to support them whenever they have the opportunity.

Mr Kamara said this is the first time they are donating to the Free and Quality Education, but they have been making donations to the Ministry of Health.

“We are discussing with the Minister of Basic Education to give us the list of textbooks that they want as we are prepared to give over 20 containers of text books for the Free and Quality Education that we want to support as it is the Government’s main priority to improve human capacity in the country.”

The Minister Alpha Timbo said he was happy that such donation has been made to his Ministry to help pupils in Bombali, Koinadugu and Tonkolili where they are working and expressed hope that the donation will help them to improve education.

“I have received the items and have signed for them and we are working together to make sure that the other donations that they want to make will not be duplicated. We are also looking forward to other institutions to come and support us as we want to make education a must for all kids in Sierra Leone.”

He thanked ChildFund for their donation and promised that the 15,200 kids that they want to benefit will definitely receive the packages.

Some of the materials donated to the Ministry include Sanitary Pads, Bed-nets, Exercise books, Pencils, Pens, School bags and many others.
