SLCAA Makes Health Declaration Forms Mandatory for All Passengers Using Freetown International Airport

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has issued a public notice directing all passengers arriving at or departing from Freetown International Airport to comply with mandatory Health Declaration Form requirements, warning that failure to do so will result in denial of boarding.

The directive, announced on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, forms part of the Authority’s efforts to strengthen compliance with airport health requirements while ensuring safe, orderly and efficient passenger processing at Sierra Leone’s principal international aviation gateway.

According to the public notice signed by the Director General of SLCAA, Ms. Musayeroh Barrie, all international travellers using Freetown International Airport must complete the applicable Health Declaration Form requirements before their arrival or departure.

The Authority emphasized that compliance is compulsory, stressing that passengers who fail to fulfil the requirements risk being prevented from boarding their flights.

“Failure to comply with the above will result to denial of boarding,” the Authority warned in its official statement.

To facilitate smooth passenger processing and minimize unnecessary travel disruptions, SLCAA strongly advised travellers to complete their Health Declaration Forms before proceeding to Freetown International Airport.

Passengers are also required to ensure that their completed forms are readily available for verification whenever requested by the relevant airport authorities.

The Authority explained that completing the necessary documentation in advance would help reduce avoidable delays, improve passenger processing and ensure compliance with established airport health requirements.

Beyond its directive to passengers, SLCAA called on airlines, travel agencies and other relevant stakeholders within the aviation industry to intensify public awareness of the mandatory requirements.

The Authority encouraged those stakeholders to inform travellers about their obligations and support efforts aimed at achieving full compliance.

The announcement places particular responsibility on airlines and travel service providers to ensure that passengers are adequately informed of the requirements before travelling, thereby reducing the likelihood of last-minute complications at the airport.

SLCAA further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance across Sierra Leone’s aviation sector.

The Authority maintained that effective cooperation among passengers, airlines, travel agencies and airport stakeholders remains essential to ensuring seamless international travel operations.

The latest directive serves as an important reminder to all intending travellers to complete their Health Declaration Forms ahead of their journeys and keep the necessary documentation accessible for inspection.

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority reiterated its commitment to promoting safe, orderly and efficient air transport operations throughout the country.
