The Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) has officially welcomed 22 newly recruited staff during a two-day induction programme held on 7th and 8th July 2026 at the Empower Africa Hall on the 10th Floor of the Freetown City Council Building.
The induction brought together newly recruited auditors, ICT officers, an Information Systems Auditor and a Procurement Officer. The programme was designed to equip the new employees with the knowledge, skills and institutional understanding required to effectively carry out the constitutional mandate of the Audit Service Sierra Leone.
Opening the induction, the Deputy Auditor-General for Finance and Corporate Services, Mohamed Juldeh Barrie, congratulated the recruits on their successful appointment, describing their selection as a reflection of the institution’s confidence in their ability to make meaningful contributions to public sector auditing in Sierra Leone.
He noted that the strength of any institution lies in the competence and commitment of its workforce, adding that the induction programme marks the beginning of the recruits’ journey towards upholding the values, professionalism and ethical standards expected of public sector auditors.
Mohamed Juldeh Barrie said the induction would provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the mandate of the Audit Service Sierra Leone, its institutional culture, professional responsibilities and the ethical principles that guide its operations. He encouraged the new staff to actively participate throughout the programme, stressing that the knowledge and experience gained would serve as a strong foundation for their professional development and effectiveness within the institution.
During the programme, the Deputy Auditor-General for Specialized Audits, Aiah Gbondo-Tugbawa, delivered a presentation outlining the institution’s mission, vision, core values, strategic plan and organizational structure. He emphasized that every member of staff has a critical role to play in promoting accountability, transparency and good governance through independent public sector auditing.
Heads of the various divisions also presented detailed overviews of the functions and responsibilities of their respective departments, providing the new employees with a broader understanding of the institution’s operations and how the different units collaborate to deliver on the Audit Service Sierra Leone’s constitutional mandate.
The induction programme forms part of the Audit Service Sierra Leone’s ongoing commitment to building a competent, ethical and high-performing workforce capable of delivering quality audits that strengthen accountability, improve public financial management and support good governance across Sierra Leone.
