People of Mabereh Community Pledge Unwavering Support to AGT Mining Company

In a heartwarming show of solidarity and appreciation, the people of Mabereh Village in Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, have pledged their unwavering support to AGT Mining Company Sierra Leone Limited following a generous donation of assorted food items worth NLe100, 000 in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The donation, presented on Sunday, March 23, 2025, included essential food items such as 50kg bags of rice, salt, sugar, onions, cartons of tomatoes and Maggi as well as gallons of cooking oil. It was made by the Country Manager of AGT Mining Company, Madam Mary J. Kosia, on behalf of herself and her business partner, Ismail El Abbouti.

In her remarks during the presentation, Madam Mary Kosia emphasized that the gesture was an expression of genuine love and appreciation from both her and Mr. El Abbouti to the people of Mabereh Village. She highlighted the importance of maintaining a relationship between the company and the community that is rooted in honesty and mutual respect.

“A relationship built on truth and honesty is one that will always thrive,” she remarked. While acknowledging that the donation came slightly later than planned, she stated that they could not let such a sacred month pass without reaching out to the community in a meaningful way.

Madam Mary Kosia also expressed her deep appreciation for the warm reception the company continues to receive from the Mabereh people and reassured them of the company’s continued commitment to their welfare.

The gesture sparked overwhelming gratitude among community members and leaders, who praised the company for its consistent support. The Village Chief, Hassan Bangura, commended both Madam Mary Kosia and Mr. El Abbouti, noting that their actions are consistent with the promises made since the company’s arrival.

“We are not surprised to see this kind of generous support from Madam Mary Kosia,” Chief Hassan Bangura said joyfully. “She has always been there for us. Though they came here to do business, they have brought much good to our community.”

The Chief emphasized the close bond the community shares with Madam Mary Kosia, whom he described as their main contact and trusted representative since AGT Mining began operations. He further mentioned that her visit was unannounced, a sign of humility that reflects her genuine intentions.

Village Imam, Mohamed Tholley, offered special prayers for Madam Mary Kosia and her team, asking God to continue guiding and protecting them. He affirmed the community’s trust in AGT Mining, stating that the company has consistently demonstrated goodwill and sincerity.

Adding to the community’s commendation, landowner Ibrahim Sankoh shared his positive experiences working with Madam Mary Kosia. He revealed that from the beginning of negotiations regarding land usage, she insisted on a lease agreement rather than an outright purchase, ensuring that the community retained ownership and long-term benefits.

“Even though the company hasn’t started work on the land yet, they’ve already been giving back to us,” Ibrahim Sankoh said. “May God protect our relationship from any misunderstanding.”

Chairlady Isatu Kargbo also extended heartfelt thanks, affirming that the community can see the positive impact of the company’s work through the consistent support facilitated by Madam Mary Kosia.

Meanwhile, the community’s Liaison Officer, Foday Ayour Koroma, welcomed the AGT delegation warmly. He reiterated that Madam Mary Kosia’s visit was no surprise, as she has always made it a point to celebrate important occasions with the community since AGT Mining began operations in 2022.

“Every Ramadan, every major event—we see her. We feel their presence,” Foday Ayour Koroma noted. “And we continue to pray for more blessings for her and Mr. El Abbouti.”

As the people of Mabereh Village continue to receive tangible support from AGT Mining Company, their pledge of steadfast support serves as a testament to the strong community-company relationship that has flourished through transparency, respect and goodwill.
