The Government of Sierra Leone has received widespread commendation for delivering efficient, safe and well-coordinated transportation services during the 69th ECOWAS Summit, particularly for the commissioning of the Julius Maada Bio (JMB) International Conference Centre and other high-level engagements held in Lungi.
The successful transportation operations were coordinated by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation in close collaboration with the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), the Sierra Leone Airport Authority (SLAA) and other key stakeholders. Their joint efforts ensured the smooth movement of Heads of State, Ministers, diplomats, senior Government officials, delegates and invited guests between Freetown and Lungi throughout the summit.
To guarantee timely and reliable transportation, the Government deployed the rehabilitated Government Wharf Ferry, water taxi services, pool vehicles and dedicated shuttle services connecting passengers to and from the airport terminal. The integrated transport arrangements enabled participants to move efficiently between venues while maintaining high standards of safety, security and convenience.
The flawless execution of the transportation plan played a significant role in the overall success of the regional gathering, earning praise from both local and international participants for its professionalism and effective coordination.
Speaking on the successful operations, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Col. (Rtd.) Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq., described the achievement as a reflection of the Government’s unwavering commitment to improving Sierra Leone’s transport infrastructure and strengthening service delivery across all modes of transportation.

According to the Minister, the transportation arrangements showcased the progress being made under the Government’s broader agenda to modernize the country’s transport network and enhance connectivity between Freetown, Lungi and other parts of Sierra Leone.
