Sierra Leone has received commendation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission for providing a peaceful, secure and well-coordinated environment during the ongoing ECOWAS Commission programme, reinforcing the country’s growing reputation as a reliable host for major regional engagements.
The National Security Coordinator (NSCORD), Abdulai Caulker, the Inspector General of Police (IG), William Fayia Sellu and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Amara Idara Bangura, working alongside other security institutions, have been widely praised for maintaining a high level of professionalism, vigilance and coordination throughout the programme. Their collective efforts have ensured the safety and security of ECOWAS officials, delegates, residents and visitors participating in the event.
The calm and orderly atmosphere surrounding the ECOWAS activities has been attributed to effective intelligence gathering, strategic operational planning and seamless collaboration among Sierra Leone’s security agencies. The delegation acknowledged the significant progress Sierra Leone has made in strengthening its security environment, noting the visible collaboration among the Office of National Security through NSCORD, the Sierra Leone Police under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces under the command of the Chief of Defence Staff and other security stakeholders. According to the delegation, that unified approach has played a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of the ongoing ECOWAS programme.
ECOWAS officials further described Sierra Leone as an important model of democratic progress, regional integration and peaceful coexistence within West Africa.
