Twenty-one-year-old motorbike rider, Abubakarr Kamara, has been committed to the High Court for trial on one count of Shop Breaking and Larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The decision was handed down by Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown following preliminary investigations into the alleged theft of properties valued at Le15, 000.
According to the particulars of offence, on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, at Levuma Beach in the Western Area of Freetown, Abubakarr Kamara allegedly broke into a shop, restaurant and bar belonging to Justice Mongeh Fofanah Deen Tarawally, Esq., with intent to steal.
The stolen items reportedly included two wooden panel doors, valued at Le3,000 each and three solar-powered CCTV cameras, each worth Le3,000.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken, as the proceedings were conducted to determine whether the matter should proceed to the High Court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Delilah Wellington, Esq., prosecuted the case and presented witness evidence in support of the charge.
Abubakarr Kamara, who was not legally represented, also made a statement during the proceedings.
Delivering his ruling, Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah said he had considered the prosecution’s evidence and the accused’s statement and was satisfied that a sufficient case had been established to warrant a High Court trial.
He subsequently ordered Abubakarr Kamara’s committal and remanded him at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown pending trial.
The accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
