ROCKCEM (SL) Ltd is strengthening Sierra Leone’s construction industry through an estimated US$60 million investment in cement processing, modern infrastructure, warehousing and nationwide distribution, aimed at improving access to quality cement and reducing transportation costs for customers across the country.
The investment forms part of the company’s expansion strategy, with particular emphasis on increasing local industrial capacity and making RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement more accessible to contractors, developers, wholesalers, retailers and individual builders.
Operating from its head office on 13B Bai Bureh Road, Texaco, Old Road, Freetown, ROCKCEM is nearing completion of a modern warehouse at Sumbuya in Songo, expected to become operational in November 2026.
The facility is expected to provide significant logistical advantages for provincial cement dealers who currently travel to Freetown to purchase and transport cement to their respective business locations.
Once operational, wholesalers and retailers will be able to collect RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement directly from Songo, reducing travel distances, transportation expenses and repeated toll-gate charges.
For many provincial customers, collecting cement from Songo could mean crossing only the Masiaka Toll Gate, depending on their locations and transportation routes, resulting in potential savings on fuel, vehicle maintenance, transportation time and other operational expenses.
The warehouse is also expected to improve distribution efficiency, shorten delivery times and reduce pressure on roads leading into Freetown, while bringing cement supplies closer to customers outside the capital.
To strengthen nationwide distribution, ROCKCEM has assembled a fleet of approximately 50 vehicles to facilitate direct deliveries and improve supply reliability for construction companies and individual customers.
According to the company, its total planned investment has increased to approximately US$60 million following global economic changes, inflation, rising equipment and construction costs, and the expansion of its operations.
A major component of the investment is a modern cement grinding mill designed to produce more than 60,000 bags of packaged cement, weighing 50 kilograms each, daily.
The investment also covers warehousing, logistics, local repackaging and processing infrastructure, with potential opportunities for employment and supporting businesses in transportation, engineering, maintenance and distribution.
Quality remains central to ROCKCEM’s strategy, with RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement being promoted as a dependable construction material offering strength, durability and consistent performance.
The company aims to establish RC BRAND among Sierra Leone’s competitive cement products through improved accessibility, reliable supply, efficient distribution and customer service.
For contractors and developers, dependable cement availability is essential to maintaining construction schedules, controlling costs and completing residential, commercial and infrastructure projects without unnecessary delays.
The anticipated opening of the Songo warehouse represents another step towards decentralizing cement distribution and supporting provincial businesses through more convenient collection arrangements.
ROCKCEM says its expansion reflects a commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s construction sector and supporting national infrastructure development under its message, “Build Stronger. Build to Last.” Customers can contact ROCKCEM at +232-72-111111 for cement enquiries and deliveries.
