One of the foremost telecommunications service providers in the country, Africell-SL, during a Press Conference it convened at its Head Office in Freetown on the 7th January 2022 unveiled six winners who won tickets to watch the African Nations Cup Football competition live in Cameroon, which commenced yesterday, 9th January 2022, in a bid to support the national team, Leone Stars.
In attendance were the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura, Media Relations Manager John Konteh, Assistant Media Manager, Nancy L.Toure, the Head of Events at Africell Sierra Leone, President of the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association Sahr Morris Jr and Ivan Gbondo from the Management of the African Yong Voices (AYV).
Nancy L Toure welcomed all and expressed joy for Sierra Leone making it to the African Nations Cups after 25 years. She gave brief a synopsis of how Africell had been supporting sporting activities in the country underscoring the passion most of their subscribers have for football. She concluded by congratulating the six winners of the draw who will be travelling to Cameroon.
In his address, Joe Abass Bangura stated that the national team, Leone Stars will have its first encounter with the Algerian National Team on the 11th January 2022 expressing optimism that the country’s team is in full gear.
He intimated that in September, 2021 Africell announced a partnership with the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) as exclusive sponsors of Leone stars in the build –up to Cameroon. Joe Abass Bangura furthered that Africell launched the AFCON promo on the 19th November to last up to the 31st December 2021 making it possible for Africell subscribers who bought data or airtime via Afrimoney to stand the chance of winning AFCON supporters packages (fully paid trip to AFCON Cameron),millions of Leones on a daily basis (via Afrimoney) and branded Leone Stars replica jerseys.
He concluded by congratulating the six winners as well as wishing the representatives from the Sport Writers Association and AYV Media Empire well as they embark on their journey to Cameroon.
John Konteh, in addendum, continued by congratulating the winners as he introduced them and explained the contents of their packages. He listed the things in the gift bag and also presented their tickets from Sierra Leone to Cameroon which includes transportation, accommodation, cash token and their COVID test kits.
The following emerged as the winners: Alfred Johnson from Freetown, Sulaiman Jalloh, Theresa Sankoh from Bo, Kai Samba Bundu, Antiga Ayeboo Daniel and Ibrahim Dumbuya.
Climaxing the event was when the representatives from the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association and the African Young Voices expressed gratitude to Africell for their kind gesture towards their institutions further maintaining that they are ready to give full updates of the AFCON matches to Sierra Leoneans.
