In the late evening hours of the 18th January 2022 news break out from State House, Office of the President, that it has pleased his Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio to relieve the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah Esq, of his position to be replaced by Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq in the same capacity.
Though the reason or reasons for relieving the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice was or were not given, his sacking, according to political analysts could not be unconnected to the granting of clemency under the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy to Baimba Moiforay (alias LAC) on New Year’s Day.
LAC was serving a life sentence imprisonment at the Pa Demba Road Male Correctional Centre for murdering popular Disc Jockey, by the name of Sydney Buckle popularly known as DJ Cleff. He did not even serve more than five years when he was granted clemency.
The then Attorney General and Minister of Justice was a key figure in the Committee of Prerogative of Mercy that recommended LAC’s release and therefore was held culpable for incompetence and misinforming the President on those who were qualified to be pardoned. As a matter of fact there is a picture on Social Media in which the sacked AG is seen romancing with LAC.
As of now President Bio has revoked the clemency granted LAC and ordered full investigation into the way the Committee arrived at the clemency decision.
