Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has engaged staff of the Ministry in a frank discussion on his leadership priorities and the future of Sierra Leone’s Foreign Service.
The meeting, held on Monday, 14 September 2026, provided a platform for Mohamed Rahman Swaray to outline his plans for strengthening the Ministry while listening to the experiences, concerns and recommendations of staff members.
Foreign Affairs Minister described the engagement as productive, noting that it allowed the Ministry’s leadership and personnel to hold an open conversation about their shared priorities and responsibilities.
According to him, the meeting was not limited to presenting his vision for the Ministry but also gave him an opportunity to hear directly from staff about the challenges they face and their ideas for improving institutional performance and service delivery.
The Minister underscored that the effectiveness of Sierra Leone’s Foreign Service depends on more than sound policies and successful diplomatic engagements. He maintained that professionalism, commitment and collective responsibility among staff members are equally important to the Ministry’s success.
Mohamed Rahman Swaray encouraged personnel to approach their responsibilities with dedication and work together to build an institution capable of representing Sierra Leone effectively at bilateral, regional and international levels.
He further emphasized the importance of creating a working environment in which staff members can contribute ideas, raise concerns and participate meaningfully in efforts to strengthen the institution.
The Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the level of participation during the engagement and said he was encouraged by the shared determination among staff members to support the Ministry’s transformation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a more responsive, effective and results-oriented Ministry that protects and advances Sierra Leone’s national interests abroad.
Mohamed Rahman Swaray also underscored the Ministry’s responsibility to serve the people of Sierra Leone with professionalism and distinction while strengthening the country’s diplomatic relations and international cooperation.
The engagement formed part of the Minister’s efforts to deepen internal consultation, promote teamwork and align staff members with his vision for a stronger and more productive Foreign Service.
He expressed optimism that, through cooperation and collective commitment, the Ministry will improve its performance and enhance Sierra Leone’s standing within the international community.
