Asmaa James Bids Farewell to President Bio, Promises to Strengthen EU Relations

Deputy Head of Sierra Leone’s Mission to Brussels and the European Union, Mrs. Asmaa James, formally bid farewell to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, as she embarks on her diplomatic assignment in Brussels.

In her remarks, Mrs. James expressed profound gratitude to President Bio for the opportunity to represent Sierra Leone, transitioning from her previous career as a journalist, where she engaged extensively with EU programs, to a diplomatic role. She emphasized her commitment to effectively representing Sierra Leone, highlighting the successful transition into her new position and the importance of strengthening the nation’s presence within the EU.

During the farewell ceremony, Mrs. James noted the positive relationships she has already established with representatives from various EU member states. She assured President Bio of her dedication to working closely with the Ambassador to uphold Sierra Leone’s interests and fulfill the government’s diplomatic mandates.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, formally introduced Deputy Ambassador James to President Bio, noting her recent legislative endorsement by the Sierra Leone Parliament. He emphasized the significance of her appointment as she prepares to strengthen Sierra Leone’s diplomatic ties in Europe, marking an important milestone for her, her family, and the country.

President Bio congratulated Mrs. James, expressing confidence in her capability to address the responsibilities of her role. He underscored the importance of Sierra Leone’s relations with the European Union, acknowledging both the opportunities and challenges the mission presents. President Bio encouraged Mrs. James to reach out as needed, pledging his support and wishing her success in furthering Sierra Leone’s diplomatic objectives.
