Choithram Memorial Hospital to Offer Free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries in Freetown this December

By Amin Kef (Ranger)

In a continued commitment to deliver vital healthcare services to the needy, Choithram Memorial Hospital in Freetown is organizing a Free Surgery Camp for patients with cleft lip and palate. Set to run from December 9 to December 14, 2024, the camp aims to provide life-changing surgical care to individuals in need at no cost to the patient.

Responding to the hospital’s invitation, Professor (Dr.) Bayo Aluko-Olokun, a renowned Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon from Abuja, Nigeria, will lead the surgical team.

Dr. Aluko-Olokun Bayo, celebrated for pioneering the Olokun-Olaitan approach for cleft lip and palate repairs, will be assisted by Choithram’s own Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Eric Wongo and his dedicated team.

Dr. Bayo Aluko-Olokun Bayo is recognized across West Africa for his expertise in both surgery and research, with a particular focus on innovative methods for repairing cleft lip and palate deformities. His participation in the camp will mark a valuable opportunity for patients in Sierra Leone to receive top-tier medical attention for conditions often left untreated due to financial constraints.

Choithram Memorial Hospital has a longstanding tradition of community service through events like these, enabling individuals who may lack the resources for specialized care to receive essential treatments. The upcoming camp will be inclusive of patients with cleft lip and palate, as well as those who may have undergone previous surgeries but still require further corrective procedures.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the event, Dr. Gowrinath M. George, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, extended gratitude to Dr. Bayo Aluko-Olokun Bayo and his team for honouring their invitation. He called on needy Sierra Leoneans to seize the opportunity in order to benefit from free medical treatment.

It must be underscored that the hospital this year installed a state-of-the-art MRI machine, which is operational since early January 2024. Harish Agnani, Chief Administrator of the Choithram Group, emphasized the hospital’s enduring commitment to accessible, quality healthcare, a vision that has defined the institution’s mission since its founding.

Choithram Memorial Hospital invites all eligible patients and their families to take advantage of this free medical camp. Registration opens on November 6, 2024 and can be done by calling +232 76 541 331 or visiting the hospital at Hill Station, Freetown. This humanitarian initiative underscores Choithram’s dedication to enhancing community health and providing transformative solutions for all Sierra Leoneans in need.
