The Dorwontony Organization for the Aged (DOFA), a charitable and Non-Governmental Organization that advocates for the needs and rights of the aged in the country has on Monday 13th February 2023 donated food and non-items to Aged Inmates at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
The donation targeted 50 Aged inmates at the Male Correctional Centre who received donated items like Slippers, used clothes, bibles, etc.
Handing over the items, the Founder of Dorwontony Organization for the Aged, Dorren Barrie, said that due to the poor conditions inmates are going through, especially the Aged at the Male Correctional Center, they felt compelled to make an immediate move in order to support them with such items which she said will help alleviate some of their challenges.
She said that the move by the organization is part of their project tagged “Aging and Victimization” which is a campaign through which the organization is extending its facilities to the Aged at the various Correctional Centres in the country.
Dorren Barrie stated that the organization was founded in order to serve as the voice for the needs and rights of the aged across the country, adding that these old people at the Male Correctional Centre should be supported and given the care they deserve.
She expressed appreciation to all those who supported the organization to embark on the donation. He further called on all to support the organization in order for them to continue to put smiles on the faces of the Aged in the country through their interventions.
The Manager at the Male Correctional Centre, Chief Superintendent Foday Ishmail Kamara expressed appreciation to Dorwontony Organization for the Aged (DOFA)for the gesture. He described the donation as not only important but very timely.
He said that in advanced countries Aged inmates are separated from the young ones but said such is not happening at the Male Correctional Centre.
Foday Ishmail Kamara said that most of these aged inmates have health complications which he said is a concern to them, stating that the Correctional Centre is really challenged in that regard due to lack of adequate drugs.
He further appealed to the organization to continue their gesture to these old people at the Centre.
Inmates who benefited from the donation expressed appreciation to the Dorwontony Organization for the Aged (DOFA) for considering them at such a crucial moment in their lives.
They assured the organization that the donated items will be used for their intended purposes.
