Dr. Turad Senesie Implements Vehicle Pass Initiative to Curb Theft at Youyi Building

In a proactive move to strengthen security at the Youyi Building, the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, led by Dr. Turad Senesie, has introduced a vehicle pass system aimed at reducing the rising incidents of vehicle theft within the premises. The new system is part of broader efforts to create a safer environment for staff, visitors and the general public.

The decision follows a series of thefts that had raised alarm among those working at and visiting the building. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Minister Dr. Turad Senesie, who has a background in law enforcement as a former Police Officer, sought guidance from the Inspector General of Police (IG) on how to address the security concerns. After consultations, the IG endorsed the Minister’s proposal, paving the way for the swift introduction of the vehicle pass system.

On the morning of Tuesday, October 22, Dr. Dr. Turad Senesie personally oversaw the launch of the initiative. Demonstrating his commitment to safety, he conducted on-the-spot training sessions for security personnel stationed at the entrance and exit points of the building. This hands-on approach ensured that all guards were familiarized with the new protocol and ready to implement the system effectively.

The vehicle pass system requires drivers to leave their identification cards at the security checkpoint upon entering the Youyi Building. In exchange, they are provided with unique coded cards that serve as both entrance and exit passes. Before exiting, drivers must return the coded cards to retrieve their identification cards, ensuring a controlled and secure flow of vehicles in and out of the building.

“This vehicle pass system is a proactive step towards safeguarding the property of our staff and visitors,” said Minister Dr. Turad Senesie. “We are confident that these measures will significantly reduce the risk of vehicle theft while enhancing the overall security of the Youyi Building.”

The introduction of the system is expected to act as a strong deterrent against theft and other unlawful activities. Dr. Turad Senesie urged all individuals accessing the building to fully cooperate with the new security measures and to remain vigilant. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and encouraged everyone to report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.

By implementing this system, the Ministry aims to create a safer, more secure environment at one of Sierra Leone’s key Government buildings, demonstrating its commitment to protecting both the individuals who use the facility and their property. As part of ongoing efforts, the Ministry will continue to assess the effectiveness of the vehicle pass system and make any necessary adjustments to further enhance security at the Youyi Building.
