Former Chinese Ambassador Wu Peng Engages Journalists on Africa, Europe & Other Issues

Former Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wu Peng, who doubles as Director General of African Affairs in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has held a round-table conference with a galaxy of journalists in Freetown.

According to him, he is on a tour to African countries to learn and discuss how China-Africa relations should grow and become meaningful to the people.

He disclosed how he held talks with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Professor David Francis, on how to bolster the agricultural sector in order for Sierra Leone to be capable of feeding itself adding that China and Africa have similar history , especially Sierra Leone and it is high time for Africa, especially Sierra Leone, to chart its way.

The former Chinese Ambassador also intimated that his role is to assist Sierra Leone reach its fullest potential as he has been an Ambassador to Sierra Leone from 2016 to 2019 adding that he will do his best to work with the Government to improve agriculture by making sure that farmers are well equipped to gain from their efforts.

The historic event took place on Thursday 6th April, 2023 at the Chinese Embassy, 29 Spur Loop, Wilberforce. It took the form of an interactive question and answer session. Questions bordering on the bilateral, economic and other ties of China with Sierra Leone, China’s involvement in the development of the African continent, Europe and elsewhere on the globe and discussions around China’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict were adequately answered by the former Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E Wu Peng.

He noted among other things that, in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, China is not taking sides, but supports peaceful overtures from any side involved in the conflict and that China will also provide humanitarian support to the needy.

At the end of the round-table discussion, journalists learnt a lot from the Chinese Ambassador on what China is doing around the world.

Witnessing the round-table discussion was H.E Wang Qing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
