Grace Christian Fellowship (GCF Global) Feeds New Jersey Communities

By Abdul Karim Koroma, New Jersey

For over six years, Grace Christian Fellowship (GCF Global) has been a beacon of hope for low-income families in New Jersey through its Food Pantry Initiative. Serving diverse communities, the project has touched the lives of over 60,000 individuals, offering not just nourishment but a sense of belonging and joy across various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I spoke with Cheryl Burgess, the Head of the Food Pantry project, following the successful distribution of over 250 turkeys at the Turkey Day event held at 40 Maison Avenue, Old Bridge. Cheryl Burgess emphasized that the initiative’s mission is clear: to provide food to anyone in need, irrespective of their community.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from our partners, including Replenish East Brunswick Food Bank, Community Food Bank of New Jersey, BJ’s, ACME, Shoprite Supermarket, Wegmans Supermarket and the State of New Jersey,” said Cheryl Burgess. “Their generous donations have made it possible for us to serve the community with food supplies every week.” The pantry operates every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Launched in 2019, the project has grown beyond just food distribution. Cheryl Burgess shared her excitement about the outreach efforts, which also include initiatives like helping senior citizens with winter preparation, including ploughing their compounds.

“It feels incredible to be able to help,” Cheryl Burgess said with emotion. “The stories people share with us about how this project has impacted their lives are truly moving. These stories motivate us to continue our work and help even more.”

The Food Pantry offers a wide variety of food items, including dry goods, frozen foods, canned foods, pre-cooked meals, vegetables and meats, ensuring that beneficiaries receive balanced and diverse options. Cheryl Burgess expressed her satisfaction not only with the volume of food distributed but also with the fact that it is reaching the people who need it most.

In a brief conversation with Bishop Emmanuel Kuyateh Sr., Head of Grace Christian Fellowship (GCF Global), he reflected on the broader mission of the church. “Our work extends beyond just preaching the gospel,” he said. “We are here to support mental health, provide spiritual guidance and offer the bread of life through our Food Pantry. We are also working on donations for clothing and household goods to further support our community.”

GCF Global’s Food Pantry continues to be a vital resource, offering more than just food ;it’s a lifeline for those in need, embodying the spirit of faith and compassion in action.
