Dr. Austin Demby, Minister of Health and Sanitation, paid a courtesy call to the Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh on the 29th July 2021, at his Walpole Street office in Freetown.
The NASSIT Director General in welcoming the Minister updated him on the progress made so far as Head of the Trust further expressing his determination to continue to resuscitate the informal sector, describing it as constituting the greater majority of the country‘s economy. He noted that having a specialized scheme would not only position the Trust in a sustainable future but also contribute to the overall development of the country.
Mohamed Fuaad Daboh revealed how he had had discussions with the International Labour Organization and the International Social Security Association regarding the formulation of a formidable policy and platform for the revitalization of the sector.
Dr. Austin Demby, on his part spoke about his ambition to transform the health sector. He said as a Ministry, they were desirous of changing the current trajectory in the health sector through capacity building, service delivery and improved infrastructure. He informed the Director General that the Ministry was in discussion with other stakeholders to develop a Health village that would constitute diagnostic centres, a teaching hospital and hospitalization facilities in the Western Region and the South and Eastern parts of the county, adding that his visit was borne out of the desire to have a dialogue on possible ways both institutions could partner and or collaborate in improving the health sector.
Both the Director General and the Health and Sanitation Minister had fruitful discussions on possible avenues of collaboration to improve the health sector and the livelihood of Sierra Leoneans.
