The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, has officially handed over a survey plan for a 168-acre tract of land to the leadership and residents of Charlotte, a community in the Western Area Rural District.
That significant gesture follows a request made by the community two years ago, seeking the allocation of the land for developmental purposes.
At the handover ceremony, Dr. Turad Senesie emphasized that the allocation of the land aligns with President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to preserving the history of Charlotte. He stressed the Government’s ongoing efforts to reclaim state land from illegal encroachment, underscoring the administration’s determination to allocate land to deserving Sierra Leoneans for residential and developmental uses.
The Minister reassured the community that the land would be used to benefit the residents and provide opportunities for sustainable growth. “This is a promise kept to return Charlotte to its people,” he declared.
The community leaders expressed their deep appreciation for the gesture and pledged to utilize the land wisely, ensuring that its development would contribute to the long-term prosperity of the area. The handover was hailed as a pivotal moment in fostering responsible land management and equitable access to resources.
The milestone marks a significant step in the Government’s efforts to empower local communities, promote responsible development and work toward the realization of Sierra Leone’s broader sustainable development goals. As the country continues its initiative to reclaim state land for productive and community-driven purposes, such collaborative actions serve to strengthen partnerships and encourage inclusive growth.
