Miksi Chocolate, one of the brands marketed by Premium Divine Trading Company Limited, a food distribution company that operates as an agent for Promasidor Holdings, a leading distributor of quality food products in Sierra Leone, has been commended as one of the best healthy beverages that gives nourishment by many older persons who joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons in Freetown, Sierra Leone on the theme: “Resilience and Contributions of Older Women.”
On Saturday 1st October, 2021 the Premium Divine Trading Company Ltd, in partnership with Residential Elderly Care Foundation, joined the world to commemorate this year’s International Day of Older Persons at an impactful event held at the Joint Communications Unit at Wilberforce Bar-racks in Freetown.
Premium Divine Trading Company Limited’s partnership with Residential Elderly Care Foundation in this year’s commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons for the second time, was to enable the company continues on its massive education on healthy eating habits by availing the product to actual and potential consumers of chocolate, the Miksi nutritious package, to enable them and their families to enjoy good nutrition through the consumption of Miksi chocolate drink that were sampled during the commemoration on the day.
In addition, the company also donated 100 cartons of Miksi chocolate, 50 Cartons of Jaba Seasoning and 50 Cartoons of Kremela to the Residential Elderly Care Foundation which was further distributed to the Aged and their families who were present at the event.
Speaking on behalf of the company, the Marketing Manager of Premium
Divine Trading Ltd, Kwaku Ampadu Afoani, disclosed that the International Day of Older Persons, is celebrated on October 1 each year to create
awareness about mental and physical health issues affecting the elderly and the abuses they face in their daily lives.
He intimated that Premium Divine Trading, as a responsible company,
thought it fit to partner with Residential Elderly Care Foundation during this year’s commemoration in order to create awareness about mental and physical health issues affecting older people as part of the company Corporate Social Responsibility.
Kwaku Ampadu Afoani further revealed that Miksi brand consists of Miksi powdered milk, Miksi chocolate and Miksi Coffee of which she encouraged older persons to add Miksi as part of their daily food intake adding that Miksi offers a healthy beverage or snack anyway anytime.
The Marketing Manager added that Premium Divine Trading Company Ltd also distributes and markets Onga, Xploza, Kremela and Yumvita , the latter being an infant cereal with milk also consisting of wheat, rice and maize and wheat variants.
He ended by appealing to all to always buy quality food products of Premium Divine Trading Company Ltd especially Miksi chocolate and Miksi Coffee because they are enriched with all the necessary nutrients needed by the body.
On his part, the Administrative Manager/Founder of Residential Elderly Care Foundation, Karifa Thoronka, commended Premium Divine Trading Company Ltd for the support given to them to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons.
He said that their Foundation is a grass root Charity entity which is applying a holistic approach to support weak and old people in their residences within poor communities in Sierra Leone, adding that they work to give these people better standards of living by offering support to them in order to enable them have renewable lives through grants, donations and sponsorship.
Karifa Thoronka informed the gathering that the day is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of senior citizens in society and to appreciate their contributions. Explaining the impacts the Foundation has played in the lives of many older people in different communities across Freetown, the Director continued by stating seven major previous donations that has changed the lives of many older people.
He revealed that the Foundation will start a nationwide survey by next year 2023 as they are trying to extend their support to the provinces and that as a Foundation they believe that the happiness of older people is their responsibility.
Underscoring the Vision of the Foundation, he said, they want a society where elders are healthy, happy, and socially integrated with the aim to contribute to the building of a society in which people are encouraged and enabled to age productively and with dignity.
In her keynote address, a business women, Madam Fatu Abiode encouraged the older women to keep on the courage as they still have hope saying the young generation should have more respect for senior citizens as they have contributed a lots to society.
She revealed that for far too long old people have been neglected by society but said the Residential Elderly Care Foundation and Premium Divine Trading Company Ltd have manifested that there are still organizations that do care about older persons in the country.
Fatu Abiode focused on the contributions of older women in Sierra Leone as the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘’Resilience and Contributions of Older Women’’. She concluded by donating the sum of three thousand Leones (3,000) to the Foundation towards feeding of the aged, and thanked the organization for their good work.
The event was climaxed by the distribution of the donated Miksi Chocolate Drink, Jaba Seasoning and Kremela to the older persons present during the ceremony.
