The leading SLPP Mayoral Aspirant for the Freetown City Council (FCC), Mohamed Gento Kamara, popularly known as Gento, has once again on the 12th and 13th April, 2023 demonstrated his God-given generosity to, especially, the poor and needy, by donating large quantities of bags of rice and sugar plus a handsome sum of money to Muslims in Freetown, who are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan through fasting, a mandatory obligation which is part of the Five Pillars of Islam.
This of his latest philanthropic and humanitarian gesture clearly and vividly mirrors the sort of compassionate person that he is, who is always willing and desirous to put smiles on the faces of people and to wipe tears from the eyes of the needy.
It further confirms his selflessness and love for his fellow man with no iota of doing so for personal aggrandizement, especially in such economically tough contemporary times, which most times drive some individuals to hypocritically extend certain offers.
On the 12th April, 2023 Gento donated 2,500 of bags of rice, 500 of 50 kg bags of sugar plus Five Hundred Million Leones (Le500M) to Mosques in the Municipality of Freetown as “Sunakati”, meant for the purpose of breaking the fast in the evening hours.
Out of the 2,500 bags of rice, 1,250 bags were donated to Mosques in the East End of Freetown and the remaining 1,250 were offered to Mosques in the West End of Freetown.
Availing four big trucks of his road construction company, two trucks conveyed the bags of rice to various destinations in the East End of Freetown and equally so, the other two dropped the items at strategic locations in the West End of Freetown, where they were collected to be distributed to the Imams of various Mosques.
Considerable quantities of bags of rice were dropped at Rokupa Mosque, Calaba Town close to the SLPP Ataya Base, Allen Town, Brima Lane and Taylor Street in the East End of Freetown.
The same was done at different locations in the West End where thirty Mosques benefitted.
According to plan, from those points, the Imams from the different Mosques collected assigned quantities to be used for the preparation of food, Sunakati, for members of the beneficiary Mosques for the purpose of breaking the fast.
Receiving the bags of rice and sugar, the last item which was distributed on the next day, 13th April, 2023, the Imams of the various Mosques thanked Gento profusely for what they described as a kind and an exceptional gesture. One of them expressed the view that it is indeed rare to see such a selfless person who willingly uses his resources to provide for the have-nots adding that he will be richly rewarded by the Almighty God for doing so. They blessed him and expressed the wish that he will triumph in his aspiration.
The Imams also prayed for the country to peacefully go through the multi-tier elections with no incidences of violence.
On his part, a prominent Tribal Head in Freetown stated that for an individual like Gento to demonstrate such a humanitarian gesture to Muslims in Freetown is indeed a commendable feat worthy of praise and support. He prayed that the Mayoral Aspirant will succeed in attaining his political aspiration and called on all to vote for him, come June 24th.
A former Councillor, who was representing one of the Wards in Aberdeen, where Mosques also benefitted from the gesture, highly commended Gento. He stated that for the singular reason that the Mayoral Aspirant thought of them and decided to render assistance big time, there is every reason why Freetonians should vote massively for him in the upcoming election. The former Councillor underscored that he is of the firm conviction that, when elected as the Mayor of the Freetown City Councillor, Gento will transform Freetown to the utmost satisfaction of majority of the residents.
As inter alia stated, it is well known that it is only when certain people are eagerly sorting or looking out to gain something for personal aggrandizement that they pretend that they very humanitarian.
However, in the case with Gento, it is a different story as his personality speaks volume of someone who is compassionate, generous with love for humanity regardless of whatever orientation or background people come from.
It is indisputably on record of how on countless occasions this fine gentleman, who is the man of the moment, has supported various successful initiatives including the promotion of sports, aiding traders to improve their business ventures , providing employment for many among other laudable gestures he has made.
Besides, he is also a pious Muslim who is conscious of the challenges that thousands are going through in such difficult economic times and therefore deemed it but fitting to assist in the area of food preparation for Muslims in Freetown in this Holy Month of Ramadan. Such a person who feels for others could only be better described as a selfless person.
Known as someone who always keeps to his promises, this aspiring gentleman recently spent a whooping sum of money to rehabilitate a bridge in one of the slum communities in Freetown, Kroo Bay, costing close to a Billion Leone, to the astonishment of some naysayers who arguably expressed the negative view that it was just an empty promise he made.
Also, just recently, he also took the bold step to electrify another community in the West End of Freetown, Madina Community within the Cockerill axis by providing another whooping sum of Le74 Million Leones (New Notes) and told the community residents to use the money that they have previously generated for the electrification of the community.
With his latest donation of 2,500 bags of rice, 500 bags of sugar and Le 500 Million Leones to Mosques in Freetown , many have maintained that Gento is indeed the most suitable Mayoral candidate that will honestly and sincerely transform the Freetown metropolis and bring it up to speed to be at par with other well planned cities in the West African Sub-Region underscoring that based on his pedigree, humanitarian attributes and not only as a result of his political ambition there is every need for Freetonians to elect him as the Mayor of Freetown.
