Orange Sierra Leone (OSL) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering top-tier telecommunications services to Sierra Leoneans by making substantial investments in network expansion and modernization. According to the company’s Public Relations Officer, Alfie Barrie, Orange Sierra Leone has invested over $50 million to upgrade its network infrastructure, with a major highlight being the transition of more than 500 sites to 4G technology, including those in remote areas of the country.
Barrie emphasized that the company’s dedicated technicians worked relentlessly through challenging weather conditions to implement these upgrades, demonstrating Orange’s commitment to ensuring nationwide connectivity. He acknowledged that during the network upgrade, some customers experienced service disruptions due to factors beyond the company’s control, such as internet service interruptions from third-party providers, fiber optic damages, and energy supply disruptions.
Despite these challenges, Barrie proudly announced that all Orange Sierra Leone sites are now fully equipped with 4G technology, significantly enhancing internet speeds and improving the quality of voice and data services. As part of its broader commitment to operational efficiency, the company has also invested approximately $17 million in energy optimization initiatives to sustain uninterrupted services.
“In a period when telecom companies are grappling with infrastructural constraints in underserved regions, Orange Sierra Leone is taking the lead in bridging the digital divide,” Barrie stated. He announced the launch of ten new solar-powered deep rural sites aimed at extending connectivity to remote areas, thereby empowering small businesses and fostering economic growth. The newly activated sites are located in Sahn, Fanima, Tawuya, Pehala, Gbonkonka, Robaka, Mabang, Mamutha, Falla, and Futta.
Barrie also addressed recent negative media reports targeting the company’s leadership, dismissing them as baseless and malicious. He reiterated that Orange Sierra Leone remains steadfast in upholding its core values of care, responsiveness, and boldness, ensuring that customer satisfaction remains a top priority.
