Momoh K. Kamara, a fifteen years old school going pupil, who is residing in Mange Bureh, Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone and attending the Bureh Catholic Senior Secondary School is currently in dire need of medical assistance as he is suffering from what has been diagnosed as Posterior Heterogeneous Swelling of the Occipital.
From what this medium learnt, his condition became apparent at age six but at that time it was considered a minor swelling but as he continued to advance in age his situation worsen. His poor parents, who are just subsistence farmers, have taken him from one health facility to another but his abnormal condition could not be cured.
When later on he was taken to the Life Care Hospital, where he was referred by medical personnel at Connaught Hospital for scanning, Dr. Abdelwahed Abugazia, MD and Dr.Ali Nour El-Din, at the Radiology Department, made the following discovery: a large heterogeneous (including CSF and brain tissue) swelling is seen protruding from a large bony defect at the occipital bone. The swelling measures about 13x10x14 cm in largest cross-section and craniocaudal dimensions. These features, according to the medical doctors, are suggestive of posterior occipital meningoencephalocele, for clinical correlation and further evaluation by MRI.
This medium further understood that Momoh K. is a very brilliant boy who had been excelling in his academic work. Lamentably, because of his worsening health condition he has to drop out of school. Besides, he could no longer bear the taunts from some of his schoolmates, which have somehow dented his self-esteem.
Hailing from a rural community, Momoh’s parents only depend on farming activities for survival and taking care of their kids, one of whom is the victim. So far they are finding it difficult for ends to meet let alone continue to foot the astronomical bills for him to get continued medical treatment.
It is against this grim backdrop that Momoh’s parents are kindly appealing to members of the public and well meaning organizations to assist in order for their son to get advanced, specialized treatment so that he will regain his health.
No help will be considered small towards helping a brilliant boy regain his health and continue his schooling.
