Tourism Ministry Expresses Intention to Collaborate With Kamakwie Marathon Organization

The Kamakwie Marathon Organization on the 7th June met with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt, at the Ministry’s Head Office in Freetown. The purpose of the visit was to explain their vision to the Ministry and also to get a national face.

Kamakwie Marathon Organization is an organization formed in 2015 by indigenes of Kamakwie in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. The aim of forming the organization is to showcase the cultural attributes of the different tribes within Kamakwie through their annual December 24th marathon.

The Director of Kamakwie Marathon Organization, Alimamy Beddous Bangura explained that the organization has been holding their annual marathon event for the last five year but because of the COVID- 19 outbreak, the 2020 edition did not hold. He said their visit was to seek partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in showcasing the cultural possessions and attraction sites of Kamakwie.

The Director of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, Mohamed Jalloh said one of the aims of the Ministry this year is to focus on domestic tourism that is community driven.

He applauded the Kamakwie Marathon Organization for the initiative saying that the Ministry intends to collaborate with them in showcasing the culture of Kamakwie and also their attraction sites, which he said are among the best in the country.

In her brief remarks, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt commended the organization for their drive in showcasing what they have.

She assured them that they will visit Kamakwie in order to get first-hand knowledge about what they are doing and also partner with them in their upcoming December 24, 2021 Marathon event where they will interact with the people of Kamakwie on what they have to showcase as far as tourism is concerned.
