By Amin Kef (Ranger)

Over the weekend, the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, visited the Yemiyah community in Lokomasama, where he provided updates on ongoing agricultural initiatives aimed at enhancing food security and employment through local farming projects.

In a post on his official X page, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh shared his excitement about participating in a symbolic rice harvest, underscoring the Government’s commitment to self-sufficiency and economic growth. He noted the positive impact of a maize cultivation project he initiated a few months ago, stating, “I am very excited to see that this project is creating jobs and increasing food production, contributing modestly to His Excellency Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone initiative.”

During his visit, the Vice President also toured the nearby Pee Cee Agriculture industrial Onion Farm, located just two kilometers from the rice harvesting site. The farm plans to plant 70 hectares of onions this year and employs 65 permanent workers along with 200 seasonal workers, further enhancing local vegetable production capacity.

Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh emphasized the significance of the Feed Salone Initiative, which aims to boost food security across Sierra Leone, remarking, “Feed Salone is not only gaining momentum but shaping a ‘New Direction’ in food production in the country.”

This initiative reflects the Government’s dedication to transforming the agricultural landscape, providing job opportunities and ensuring sustainable food sources for local communities.
