Pastor Francis A. M. Mambu, Founder and General Overseer of Faith Healing Bible Church Worldwide, has remained defiant in the face of a wave of negative social media commentary, declaring that criticism, insults and attempts to discredit his ministry will not silence him from preaching what he believes God has called him to proclaim.
The prominent Sierra Leonean clergyman has recently become the subject of intense online discussion following statements attributed to him concerning secret and traditional societies. The controversy has generated competing opinions, with some critics demanding evidence for his claims and others going further by questioning his character, Christian credentials and past.
But Pastor Mambu has refused to retreat.
Instead, the respected church leader has reaffirmed his commitment to the Gospel, maintaining that his responsibility as a servant of God is not to seek public approval but to speak according to his understanding of Scripture, even when the message attracts opposition.
Quoting Ezekiel 3:17, Pastor Mambu described himself as a “watchman” with a spiritual responsibility to warn people against what he considers sin, evil and wickedness while directing them towards Jesus Christ.
“I am not afraid. I will continue preaching so people can know the truth, which is Jesus Christ,” he declared in response to the controversy.
His statement represents a firm rejection of attempts to intimidate him through social media pressure.
While every Sierra Leonean has the right to question statements made by religious leaders and other influential public figures, there must be a clear distinction between legitimate scrutiny and character assassination. Asking Pastor Mambu to substantiate factual allegations is legitimate; using unverified claims, insults and personal attacks to condemn his entire ministry is another matter altogether.
The current controversy should therefore be approached with fairness.
Pastor Mambu has spent years building a Christian ministry centred on prayer, preaching, biblical teaching and spiritual transformation. His supporters believe that record should not suddenly be erased because sections of social media disagree with statements he has made.
As Founder and General Overseer of Faith Healing Bible Church Worldwide, he has ministered to congregations and followers who regard him as a powerful man of God and a fearless preacher. He has also authored several books and has consistently used his platform to encourage people to embrace Jesus Christ and live according to biblical principles.
Believers regard him as an oracle of God; a preacher prepared to deliver messages he believes God has placed upon his heart, irrespective of whether those messages are popular.
That conviction appears to be at the centre of the present dispute.
Some critics have also raised allegations about Pastor Mambu’s purported previous association with traditional societies. But allegations circulating on social media should not automatically be elevated to established facts without credible supporting evidence.
More importantly, even where a Christian leader acknowledges a previous life or association that differs from his present beliefs, Christianity fundamentally recognizes repentance, conversion and transformation. A person’s past cannot, by itself, disprove the sincerity of his present faith.
The Bible itself contains numerous examples of individuals whose lives changed dramatically before they became powerful messengers of their faith. Christian teaching therefore cannot logically proclaim transformation while simultaneously insisting that a person’s past forever disqualifies him from speaking about his present convictions.
Pastor Mambu’s critics have similarly revisited statements reportedly made by him at the Cotton Tree in November 2020 concerning Sierra Leone’s future and development. They have sought to contrast those statements with present challenges such as unemployment, poverty, the high cost of living and drug abuse.
But Sierra Leone’s socioeconomic difficulties cannot reasonably be placed at the feet of one pastor.
Economic performance, employment, inflation, poverty and national development are influenced by complex domestic and international circumstances, public policies, global economic conditions and numerous other factors. Using those challenges alone to attack Pastor Mambu’s spiritual credibility risks turning a theological debate into an overly simplistic assessment of national development.
Pastor Mambu has every right, within the law, to preach his interpretation of Christianity. Likewise, those who disagree with him have every right to challenge his teachings peacefully and demand evidence when he makes claims presented as factual.
What should not be encouraged is the transformation of legitimate disagreement into an online campaign of ridicule, abuse and personal destruction.
The appropriate response to speech is reasoned engagement. Where Pastor Mambu makes factual allegations, those claims can be examined objectively. Where he expresses religious beliefs, they should be understood within the context of his Christian convictions.
For decades, religious leaders across the world have delivered messages that challenge cultural practices, political systems and prevailing social attitudes. Such preaching inevitably generates controversy because religious conviction does not always conform to popular opinion.
Pastor Mambu appears determined to accept that consequence.
Rather than allowing the current social media storm to force him into silence, he has reiterated that his ultimate responsibility is to God and the Gospel he has been called to preach.
His message remains centred on Jesus Christ.
His position remains firm.
His determination to continue his ministry remains unshaken.
The current controversy may have generated fierce social media exchanges, but it has not established the downfall of Pastor Francis A. M. Mambu. If anything, his response demonstrates a preacher determined to stand behind his convictions even when doing so comes at considerable personal criticism.
For his congregation and supporters, Pastor Mambu remains a powerful man of God, a teacher of the Word and a courageous Christian leader whose ministry should be judged by its overall fruits rather than by hostile social media commentary.
As Scripture declares in Matthew 7:16: “By their fruits you shall know them.”
Pastor Francis A. M. Mambu has made his own position equally clear: he will not surrender his pulpit to social media pressure, he will not abandon his Christian convictions because of criticism and he will not stop proclaiming the message he believes God has entrusted to him.
For Pastor Mambu, the message amid the storm remains unmistakable and uncompromising: he will not be afraid, he will not be intimidated and he will not abandon his Christian convictions. Instead, he will remain steadfast in his divine calling, boldly proclaiming the message at the very heart of his ministry; Jesus Christ.
The attacks may continue, but Pastor Mambu says his voice for the Gospel will not be silenced.
