Choithram Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with Max Healthcare from India and in association with the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone, is poised to host two important  events at its Hill Station premises on the 5th and 6th of August, 2023.
The first event will mark a milestone in the country’s medical landscape with the introduction of “Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery.” This innovative surgical technique will be the focus of a two-day workshop tailored for surgeons and aspiring medical students from Government medical facilities, teaching hospitals, and private practitioners.
Renowned Laparoscopic General Surgeon, Dr. Atul Wadhwa from Max Healthcare, India, and Dr. Mustapha S. Kabba, Consultant & General Surgeon at Connaught Government Hospital and Choithram Memorial Hospital, will conduct live surgeries during the workshop and will be streamed live in the Conference Room of Choithram Memorial Hospital, allowing participants to observe and learn firsthand from the experts.
The workshop aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of local medical professionals, empowering them to effectively use laparoscopic equipment for diagnostics and surgical procedures. Choithram Memorial Hospital’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone is evident through this initiative, which seeks to bridge the gap in medical services and provide accessible healthcare options.
In conjunction with the workshop, Dr. Atul Wadhwa will offer free expert consultations to pre-screened patients, ensuring they receive specialized medical attention without any financial burden. All surgeries performed during the event will be entirely free of cost, generously covered by the hospital Management.
The second event will cater to individuals facing various malignancies and those dealing with joint problems and spine disorders. Leading specialists from MAX Super Specialty Hospital, Dr. Nagender Sharma and Dr. Akshay Kumar Saxena, will provide free expert consultation sessions in Oncology/Hematology and Orthopaedics, respectively.
Dr. Gowrinath M. George, the Medical Superintendent for Choithram Memorial Hospital, expressed the hospital’s dedication to the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone, emphasizing the importance of bringing specialized experts to provide pro bono medical treatments for patients who may not have the means to seek treatment abroad.
Choithram Memorial Hospital’s Chief Administrator, Harish Agnani, emphasized the hospital’s ongoing commitment to adopting the latest and technologically advanced medical equipment to ensure accurate and effective treatments for patients. He reiterated that the welfare of patients remains the hospital’s top priority and every effort is made to provide timely and professional medical attention.
