The High Commission of India celebrated the 8th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2022 featuring Indians and Sierra Leoneans who practice it here in the country.
It is a global celebration highlighting the importance of Yoga and its role in keeping the body and mind in perfect health. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Yoga: the Guardian Ring” and the celebration took place at the High Commission of India, Wilkinson Road in Freetown.
Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps to boost one’s mental and social well-being.
Deepak Kumar Kashyap, as Attaché of the High Commission of India, intimated this medium that the day aims to raise awareness on the significance of inculcating the habit of meditation for peace of mind and self-awareness which is necessary to survive in a stress-free environment.
Edward Kekura Kamara, one of the Yoga instructors revealed that Yoga has many benefits which according to him could be useful antidotes for stress, anxiety, flexibility, trauma, amongst others.
Climaxing the event was a demonstration of how Yoga is practiced which captivated those in attendance.
Sierra Leone has always been an important partner of India to promote and celebrate the International Day of Yoga since its inception.
