Jehovah’s Witnesses Annual District Convention Kicks Off Today in Freetown

By Fatmata Jengbe

Jehovah’s Witnesses will kick off their annual district convention series in Freetown on Friday, November 8, 2024. The event, announced on Thursday by national spokesman Edgard D. Lacle, will be held under the theme “Declare the Good News.” The convention aims to provide a message of hope and encouragement in the face of the world’s often overwhelming negative news.

The convention, which has been running globally since May 2024, will take place over multiple weekends at two venues in Freetown: Sussex Expandable Kingdom Hall and Waterloo Expandable Kingdom Hall. The convention will be free and open to the public, with no registration required.

The convention series will feature two three-day gatherings at each location, with the following schedule:

– Sussex Expandable Kingdom Hall: November 8-10 and November 15-17

– Waterloo Expandable Kingdom Hall: November 22-24 and November 29-December 1

Each day of the convention will offer a full program, starting at 9:20 a.m. and running until 4:50 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with a one-hour and 20-minute lunch break. Sunday sessions will begin at 9:20 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

The convention will feature a variety of Bible-based discourses, interviews, and short films, exploring significant Biblical themes such as “Everlasting Good News – In What Sense?” and “Hold Firmly to the Good News – Why and How?”. A special highlight will be a two-part Bible drama, “The Good News According to Jesus: The True Light of the World,” which will portray the early life of Jesus Christ, from his birth to his time in Egypt and his return to Israel.

Lacle emphasized the importance of the convention’s message, particularly in these challenging times. He pointed out that each day will bring unique highlights: Friday’s sessions will delve into the historical accuracy of the Gospels, while Saturday will address prophecies regarding Jesus’ birth and childhood, featuring a public baptism. On Sunday, the convention will conclude with an inspiring talk titled “Why We Don’t Fear Bad News,” discussing how Jehovah’s Witnesses find security in their faith despite the world’s challenges.

As preparations continue, Lacle expressed gratitude for the volunteers who have worked to set up the event, praising their unity and dedication. He invited the public and media to attend, noting that the convention promises to be an uplifting experience for all.

The events will be held at the following locations:

– Sussex Expandable Kingdom Hall: Banga Farm, Mile 13, Sussex (November 8-10 and November 15-17)

– Waterloo Expandable Kingdom Hall: Old Motor Road, near Government Hospital, Waterloo (November 22-24 and November 29-December 1)

Everyone is welcome to attend, with no registration or fee required.
