Maseray Sesay, a Communications & Advocacy Specialist, has stepped into the realm of entrepreneurship with the official launch of Leone Ushering and Events in March 2024. However, her journey into this venture began much earlier, with her dedication to training and mentoring young girls since 2023 for roles in the events industry.
The inspiration behind Maseray Sesay’s entrepreneurial leap stems from her profound commitment to empowering young women. Recognizing a gap in opportunities for skill development and confidence-building, particularly within the events sector, she founded Leone Ushering and Events. Through this platform, she aims not only to provide practical event management experience but also to instill vital life skills such as communication, leadership and teamwork. Her ultimate goal is to foster personal and professional growth among girls, enabling them to emerge as leaders in their communities.
However, Maseray Sesay acknowledges the challenges and obstacles that come with her mission. Gender biases persist among some clients, casting doubt on women’s capabilities in certain roles and potentially leading to discrimination against her Agency. Safety concerns also loom, especially when operating with an all-female team during nighttime events.
Balancing her responsibilities as the Manager of Leone Ushering and Events alongside her role as a Communications Manager presents another hurdle for her. Nevertheless, she remains undeterred in her plans to expand the Agency. Currently employing 15 women, she looks forward to increasing this number in the coming months.
In a short message to her fellow women in business, Maseray Sesay urges them to persevere in inspiring, empowering and shattering barriers. She believes that their leadership and dedication pave the way for a more inclusive and equal future.
