Report reaching this medium indicates that one popular worker of the Bai Bureh Memorial Community Hospital at Mahera in Lungi, Santigie Baimaro Kamara has on the 10th November 2018 been declared wanted by thugs and a dangerous and notorious group associated with the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Government called “Soja Team”.
This group is well known for attacking members, supporters and sympathizers of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party in the Lungi community and it’s environs with impunity.
Santigie who resides at No: 43 Abidjan Street, Rotifunk, Lungi in the Port Loko District, Northwest of Sierra Leone has been sensitizing women on the importance of family planning and contraceptives in the Hospital.
Commenting on the issue, a Civil Society activist, Mohamed Swarray said Santigie and his family faced persistent intimidations, molestations and harassments from these gangs after they realized that the sure name of his father is the same with the 2018 APC Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara.
The most frustrating thing is that these hooligans are perpetuating atrocities with impunity and the police are afraid to take action against them because of their close association with the powers that be.
Swarray also accused the Chairlady of the SLPP in Lungi, Madam Kadie Gateway Bangura of preventing buyers from purchasing goods or produce to perceived APC members in the market.
He recalled on the 20th December 2018 when a group of people came to buy goods but were prevented by the SLPP thugs and the Chairlady which did not go down well with onlookers who were very disgusted over the persistent attacks on innocent people.
He said when Santigie heard the ugly incident, he rushed to the scene to see her mother who had sustained serious injuries and bleeding profusely due to the attack. He said the attackers carted away everything they could lay hands on thereby leaving Santigie’s mother unconscious.
This he said prompted Santigie Baimaro Kamara to report the matter to the Rotifunk Police Post and the police immediately intervened by arresting the ring leader, Mohamed Sorsor.
This latest development caused chaos in the Lungi community as the thugs and Task Force members vowed to kill Santigie and his family for reporting their leader to the police.
Santigie had to flee to Freetown to seek refuge due to the persistent attacks on his life but ran out of luck when the attackers knew his hide out. They also visited the place and attacked the building, pelted stones on the people and ransacking the entire house.
“We will kill Santigie Baimaro Kamara, his mother Madam Rugiatu Kamara and younger sister Aminata Deen Kamara if seen for reporting our leader to the police which led to his eventual arrest and detention for one week,” one of the gangs Foday Turay stressed.
This latest development prompted Santigie Baimaro Kamara to seek refuge to an unknown destination to save his life. Family members have expressed serious concern about his safety and wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the Area Chief Pa Musa Conteh confirmed the burning down of the family house of Santigie Baimaro on the 15th January 2019 by the same notorious group. Chief Conteh claimed that the notorious group did it because Santigie Baimaro’s mother refused to handover her son to them despite several requests. This latest action has caused several perceived members of the opposition to flee for their lives.
