In Bo City, during the SLAJ Golden Jubilee Annual General Meeting, journalists and media stakeholders pledged their commitments to restrict themselves to 30 kilometre per hour speed limit within urban settlements or towns.
It could be recalled that on the 17th May 2021, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) launched a week long Global Road Safety Week on the Theme: “Speed Management”.
The 30 kilometre pledge is an initiative of the United Nations through the World Health Organisation with the objective to reduce road traffic crashes. In adherence to the initiative, the SLRSA stated that it is calling on stakeholders and road users to adhere to the 30 kilometre per hour speed limit in urban settlements, towns and villages along highways.
Signing of the commitments by journalists and media stakeholders during the august meeting was spearheaded and facilitated by Sheikh Mustapha Bawoh, former Vice President of SLAJ and the substantive Chairman Board of Directors of SLRSA.
During its presentation, SLRSA did a PowerPoint explanation bordering on the ‘Dangers of Speed’ and it was done by Engineer Michael Jaiga, who is the Director of Traffic Safety and Engineering at SLRSA.
Among the key journalists that signed the pledge were; the President of SLAJ, Ahmed Sahid Nasrallah (De. Monk), Asmaa James of Radio Democracy 98.1, former IMC Commissioner, Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura, Dr. Isaac Massaquoi, Director of INSLICS at Fourah Bay College, the Bar Association President, Michaela Swallow, RSLAF Brigade Commander South ,Region Brigadier Abu Bakarr Conteh among a host of other eminent personalities.
