ROCKCEM Boosts RC BRAND Cement Supply with New Songo Warehouse and 50-Vehicle Fleet

As demand for reliable construction materials continues to shape Sierra Leone’s building industry, ROCKCEM (SL) Ltd is strengthening its industrial and commercial operations through major investments in cement production, transportation and distribution infrastructure.

The company is expanding its capacity to serve contractors, building material dealers, property developers and individual customers, with particular attention to improving access to cement in provincial communities.

Central to the expansion is a modern cement grinding facility designed to produce more than 60,000 bags of cement daily, alongside approximately 50 transportation vehicles and a new distribution warehouse at Sumbuya in Songo, Western Rural District.

Scheduled to begin operations in November 2026, the Songo warehouse is expected to improve the movement of ROCKCEM’s flagship RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement to markets beyond the capital.

For many provincial traders, obtaining cement involves travelling considerable distances to Freetown, often resulting in additional transportation expenses and delivery delays.

The proposed distribution facility is intended to ease those difficulties by providing a more accessible collection point for customers travelling from different parts of the country.

Depending on their routes, dealers could benefit from reduced fuel expenditure, lower vehicle maintenance costs and fewer toll-related expenses. Shorter collection journeys could also enable retailers to replenish their stocks more frequently.

Beyond the warehouse development, ROCKCEM is reinforcing its distribution operations with a fleet of approximately 50 vehicles intended to facilitate timely movement of cement between production facilities, commercial outlets and construction sites.

The transportation investment is expected to support more consistent product availability while improving the company’s responsiveness to changing market requirements.

Meanwhile, the modern grinding mill represents a substantial increase in ROCKCEM’s planned processing capabilities. With each cement bag weighing 50 kilograms, the facility’s projected daily production exceeds 3,000 metric tonnes.

Such capacity could help strengthen domestic cement supply, particularly as construction activities continue across residential developments, commercial properties and public infrastructure projects.

The company’s investment programme also carries potential economic benefits beyond cement production. Increased industrial activity could generate employment in mechanical engineering, equipment operation, transportation, warehouse management and technical maintenance.

Local enterprises supplying machinery components, vehicle services and other operational necessities could similarly benefit from expanded business opportunities.

Although inflation, equipment costs and other operational pressures remain challenges for industrial businesses, ROCKCEM continues to pursue investments designed to strengthen its competitive position and long-term market presence.

Its flagship product, RC BRAND CEM II 42.5 R Cement, is promoted for strength, durability and suitability for various building applications.

With the Songo warehouse approaching its scheduled opening, ROCKCEM is positioning itself to serve a broader customer base while contributing to improved access to construction materials nationwide.

The company operates from 13B Bai Bureh Road, Texaco, Old Road, Freetown and can be contacted on +232 72 111111 for purchases, wholesale enquiries and delivery arrangements.

ROCKCEM continues to market RC BRAND Cement under the slogan: “Build Stronger. Build to Last.”
