Center for Tourism Sierra Leone Donates Washable Sanitary Pads to Girls

Washable Sanitary Pads were donated by the Center for Tourism and Cultural Activities Sierra Leone, has to over 20 girls of the Saint Andrews’s Primary School and King Fahad Junior Secondary School at Tossoh Island in the Northern Part of Sierra Leone on Friday 10th February, 2023  .

Making his statement, the Chairperson for Center for Tourism and Cultural Activities Sierra Leone, Andrew Fortune Bassie said Tassoh Island is a rich touristic island but girls leaving in that community are vulnerable and lack most facilities girls are benefiting from in the Western arena.

He continued that as part of their engagement with schools on Tourism Education, there was need to engage girls attending Saint Andrew’s Primary school and King Fahad Secondary school at Tassoh Island on Menstrual Hygiene, adding that access to Pad is expensive in the community and it in that regard his organization saw it as a need and donated the Washable Sanitary pads to the girls.

Marima K Sesay, a pupil of King Fahad Secondary School said the donation of the pads to them as pupils is a great blessing and news to them ending up by saying that she has never used pad her whole life talk less of washable pads.

“Most of us will miss school if we don’t have an old cloth to use as pads but with the aid from the Center for Tourism and Cultural Activities those challenge has been solved,” she maintained.

Aminata A Bangura, a parent, while giving the vote of thanks said affordability and accessibility of sanitary pad is of great challenge for them as parents and their girls in their community.

She narrated the experience and unfortunate things girls faced when going through their menstrual cycle of which she used the opportunity to call on other organizations to follow the footprint of the Center for Tourism and Cultural Activities Sierra Leone.
