On Wednesday January 3, 2024, former President Ernest Bai Koroma has been granted bail by a high court order following his appearance before a magistrate on charges of treason. The ex-president will return home with the existing restrictions under which he has been placed for the past weeks. His case has been adjourned to January 17, 2024.
Koroma faces a total of four charges, including treason, misprision of treason, and two counts of harbouring. His lawyer, Joseph Kamara, has characterized the charges as “trumped up.”
