To enhance religious and community development, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Alhaji Fanday Turay, commissioned a newly constructed Masjid in Segbwema, Kailahun District. The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, January 10, 2024, attracted local leaders, residents and dignitaries who gathered to celebrate the monumental achievement.
During his address, the Minister expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with fellow Segbwema indigenes to actualize such an important project. He emphasized the importance of community efforts and reiterated President Bio’s commitment to societal contributions and delivering value to the people.
“With those words in mind, I had to really do the best I can and put so much effort together with my brothers and sisters from this district to put up this nice Masjid,” Alhaji Fanday Turay remarked.
Ing. Lahai Senesie, the lead engineer of the project, highlighted the spiritual significance of the Masjid. “This is one of the biggest acts of worship in Islam called sadakatul jaria. It is a form of charity that continues to bless someone even after their death,” Ing. Lahai Senesie explained.
Renowned Islamic scholar and keynote speaker, Sheikh Bah, elaborated on the multifaceted role of mosques in society, describing them as centers for spiritual, educational and civic engagement. “I hope this mosque will perform similar functions,” he added.
The Honorable Member of Parliament, Wuyata Songa, underscored the unity among the Segbwema indigenes, urging the community to build on that foundation. “This is just the beginning; we can do so many things. But our starting point is God’s field, which has paved the way for us as children of Segbwema,” the Parliamentarian stated.
Jakar Turay, a resident and women’s representative in the community, spoke about the Masjid’s significance to the Kono Town Community. “The Masjid represented everything for our people in Kono Town Community. It was their meeting point and socialization area. I’m so happy to be following in their footsteps,” Jakar Turay explained.
Community members praised the Minister’s gesture of faith and generosity, promising to utilize the new facility well. The newly constructed Masjid is expected to serve as a beacon of unity and spiritual growth for Segbwema and its surrounding areas.
