Dr. Roland Turay Extends Philanthropic Support to Maboroba Village

By Esther Wright

Renowned philanthropist and development partner Dr. Roland Turay on Friday, October 4, 2024, made a significant contribution to the community of Maboroba, located in the Karene Section, Biriwa Chiefdom, Bombali District. Dr. Roland Turay, known for his unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, donated crucial building materials, including several bags of cement, for the construction of the Alhadi Islamic Junior Secondary School in the village.

In addition to this donation, Dr. Roland Turay pledged further assistance to the Maboroba community. He announced plans to provide solar lights, construct a water borehole and empower ten local youths through a skills training program. Moreover, he committed to supporting health initiatives, promising to fund hernia surgeries for twenty patients and provide eye care for fifteen individuals suffering from vision problems.

Speaking during the donation ceremony in Maboroba Village, Dr. Roland Turay expressed his concern for the community, noting that Maboroba has been largely excluded from development efforts in the Bombali District. He described the village as a peaceful and unique place, deserving of the same basic infrastructure and opportunities available in nearby communities. “My goal is to bring Maboroba to the forefront of development in the district, so that my people here can take pride in the progress of their village,” Dr. Roland Turay said, emphasizing his commitment to the village’s transformation.

Dr. Roland Turay went on to describe Maboroba as his “second home,” underscoring the importance of education in driving development. He highlighted that many areas across Sierra Leone have experienced significant growth due to high levels of education, which he hopes to replicate in Maboroba.

This latest effort is part of Dr. Roland  Turay’s broader mission to promote development in the Bombali District. His previous contributions include the construction of both a primary and secondary school in Mankineh Village, the establishment of a clinic and the building of a bridge that connects several villages in the Bombali Sharry Chiefdom. For his impactful work, Dr. Roland Turay  has been widely recognized by the people of the district, including being honored for his role in developing two popular beaches— “Roland Beach” at Konta in the Bombali Shebora Chiefdom and another at Madokor in the Ngowahun Chiefdom.

In addition to his contributions to infrastructure and education, Dr. Roland Turay has made substantial health interventions, including conducting numerous medical procedures for people suffering from various ailments and offering financial assistance to students in need. Last year, he donated a consignment of cement to the School of Clinical Science in Makeni, aiding the construction of an additional building on its campus.

The donation event in Maboroba concluded with a vibrant traditional celebration. Chiefs, elders and women of the community paid tribute to Dr. Roland Turay, chanting praises in typical Mandingo fashion, referring to him as “our savior.”

This donation marks yet another milestone in Dr. Roland Turay’s ongoing commitment to the upliftment of rural communities in Sierra Leone, as he continues to inspire hope and positive change.
