In a grateful appreciation and recognition for her outstanding and relentless service towards women’s empowerment and sustainable development in Sierra Leone, Founder/Executive Director of Angels to Angels-Sierra Leone, Fatu Quine Sesay, was on Friday 25th September, 2020 among several other female personalities who bagged this year’s Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award 2020 at an auspicious event held at the prestigious Mammy Yoko Hotel, Aberdeen, in Freetown.
It indeed came as no surprise that Fatu Quine Sesay was awarded among several other female personalities in this year’s Fifty Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Award 2020, as she has immensely contributed in so many ways to the development of children, especially girls in Sierra Leone. Currently her organization is supporting over 100 less privileged girls across the country in 46 different schools in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Tombo and Makeni.
Fatu Quine Sesay is the Founder/ Executive Director of Angels to Angels Sierra Leone (A2A) a US based non-profit organization developed by a group of visionary women with the aim of improving educational opportunities for girls in Sierra Leone which they have been doing for the past 10 years of existence.
It could be recalled that due to her organization’s relentless efforts and excellent service delivery to the children of Sierra Leone, one of the leading child advocacy organizations in the country, Kids Advocacy Network- Sierra Leone (KAN-SL) awarded her organization with the National Child Development Prestigious Award 2019.
Many that this medium engaged to comment on the award of Fatu Quine Sesay opined that she deserves it based on her tremendous work she has been doing to promote the development of children in the country. Some maintained that it is not a surprise to them that she emerged victorious to bag the covetous award, because they know her to be one of the visionary women in the country that has supported less privileged children, especially girls in Sierra Leone.
Commenting on the award, Founder/Executive Director of Angels to Angels-Sierra Leone, Fatu Quine Sesay expressed appreciation to the organizers for recognizing her efforts towards her contributions to humanity and thanked all those who voted for her.
She described the moment as much bigger than her, adding that when they started Angels To Angels it was about bridging the literacy gap between boys and girls and now it is about every child deserving an education.
“I might be the one accepting this award but I’d like to dedicate it to the inspiration behind the organization; the Pauzenga family in the Netherlands, who sponsored me through high school and inspired me to pay it forward through ATASL,” she maintained.
She disclosed that for eleven plus years they have been in operation, further extending appreciation to her fellow Board Members namely, Kathy, Stephanie, Sarah, Kate, Stefanie and Michaela, for being selfless and also to their staff here in Sierra Leone, especially their Program Coordinator, their Girls, their Volunteers and their families, for their hard work and dedication.
“To our generous sponsors, Thank You, Thank You, Thank you for your continued support. Last but not least, a big thank you to our spouses, families, friends and all those who have supported us along the way. We could not have done it without each and every single one of you,” she concluded.
