Gento Tells Citizens: “SLPP, NGC Winning Team, Set for Victory”

By Amin Kef (Ranger)

Mohamed Gento Kamara, the leading and well-acclaimed political contender of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the forthcoming June 24 elections, for the position of Mayor of Freetown Municipality, has informed a mammoth crowd that the Sunday 23rd April, 2023 Progressive Alliance Agreement which President Julius Maada Bio of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) signed with the leader of National Grand Coalition (NGC), Hon. Dr, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) is victory for all and very beneficial to all Sierra Leoneans and that it is a deliberate agreement for the fast development of Sierra Leone.

Mohamed Gento Kamara was speaking after the momentous event of 23rd April, 2023. He was among dignitaries that witnessed, participated and warmly embraced themselves at the formal signing of the Progressive Alliance for Transformational Development between the leaders of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and National Grand Coalition (NGC), H.E President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and Hon. Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella respectively.

During the auspicious, colourful and well-attended event which took place at the Freetown International Conference Centre at Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen in Freetown, thousands of SLPP, NGC supporters and members of the general public were in attendance, inside and outside the edifice.

President Julius Maada Bio in his statement said: “As leader of the Sierra Leone’s People’s Party, I formally sign the Progressive Alliance for Transformational Development Agreement with the leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Honourable Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella.”

He further explained that the SLPP went into this Progressive Alliance with the NGC to maintain the peace, stability and development of Sierra Leone because “Sierra Leone is bigger than any political party or any individual.”

He added that the future of Sierra Leone is in the hands of all Sierra Leoneans irrespective of political affiliation, regional or ethnic connection.

On his part, Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella informed his audience that, “Wae We Put Salone Fos, Salone Go Beteh…Pa-o-pa Salone Go Beteh.” Loosely translated into English he meant: “When we put the business of Sierra Leone first and before any other business, Sierra Leone will develop as a matter of must.”

He added that: “Today marks a historic day in Sierra Leone as the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) come together to form a Progressive Alliance. This decision demonstrates our unwavering dedication to placing the interests of our nation first and collaborating to create a brighter and more prosperous future for all our people.”

In his words of praise and support for the Progressive Alliance, the result-oriented and pragmatic SLPP Freetown Mayoral aspirant, Mohamed Gento Kamara frankly and candidly stated that the occasion indeed marked a momentous and significant milestone in the history of the country, firmly underscoring how the SLPP and NGC team is now set for victory.

He used the opportunity to call on all Sierra Leoneans to support the winning team that has emerged and to massively cast their votes for President Julius Maada Bio, his running mate, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and for him as Mayor of Freetown in order to usher in meaningful and sustainable progress and development.

In high spirits, dressed in a green SLPP Lacoste T-Shirt, with white trousers and green sneakers in addition to a green cap bearing his insignia, Gento went on to tell his mammoth crowd that he was in attendance at a SLPP/NGC Alliance Carnival in the wake of the formal signing ceremony.

He also informed citizens that Sierra Leone is going through serious economic challenges, but praised the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio for cushioning the effects of global economic meltdown through implementation of sound policies.

He maintained that he is optimistic that when this new team takes over State Governance, after winning the elections, things will continue to improve in better ways for majority of Sierra Leoneans, adding that “a bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush.”

Gento as he is commonly known enthusiastically told his audience that, forming the Alliance clearly demonstrates their (SLPP’s) commitment to putting the interest of the nation paramount as they see the need to collaborate with the aim of charting forward a viable future for the nation in the interest of all Sierra Leoneans.

It must be stated that, Gento joined the political race with the ambition of putting an end to tribal politics and to promote unity, especially among residents of the Freetown Metropolis and also with the firm belief that individual as well collective actions heavily influenced or laced by tribal or religious sentiments do not have a place in Freetown if progress and development are to be realized.

He said, “Regardless of tribal belonging, we all belong to one nation. It is very significant for all of us to put hands on deck, devoid of political or tribal differences to holistically work towards the progress and development of the Freetown Metropolis and the entire country.”

Worthy of note is that since the declaration of his political intention, Gento and his entourage have been crisscrossing the length and breadth of the Freetown Metropolis in meet-the-people tours with clear messages of his determination to sustainably transform Freetown – one of the oldest cities in the West Africa Sub-Region, to a more befitting city with modern and internationally recognized structures.

Meanwhile, it is being debated by schools of thought that the Progressive Alliance will be a formidable force to reckon with; underpinning how Mohamed Gento Kamara is indeed the right and appropriate political candidate for the FCC Mayor position as he has the requisite wherewithal, charisma, character, contacts, technical expertise and material resources to make major inroads in the development of Freetown Municipality when he is elected Mayor.

In a snap interview with residents of Freetown, it came out vividly that with President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Hon. Kandeh Yumkella and Mohamed Gento Kamara, there will be massive development as agreed in the Progressive Alliance.

Shortly after the signing was announced, a number of political pundits expressed the view that, Dr. Yumkella’s decision has put an end to speculations as to which party he had been planning to aligning with, after being wooed by both the APC and SLPP, and more especially as he had announced a few weeks ago that he will be forming a strategic alliance with a political party any time soon.

Political pundits also say that the team is set for victory on June 24, this year, adding that they believe that the Progressive Alliance Agreement is sacrosanct, truthful and nothing but the ultimate truth.

National Youth Leader Hails NGC/SLPP Alliance

By Abubakarr Harding

National Youth Leader of National Grand Coalition (NGC), -Ahmed Pompey Jah has thanked President Bio for his leadership and urged his compatriots to support the alliance agreement between the SLPP and NGC. Below is what he said:

“I would like to thank specifically His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and Honorable Dr. Kandeh Yumkella who together has set the stage to dislodge the ethno-regionalistic political division in our country. A son of a Chieftaincy family from Samu Chiefdom Kambia District in Northern Sierra Leone and that of another Chieftaincy family in Tihun Sogbindi  Chiefdom in Bonthe District, Southern Sierra Leone.

“What both men did yesterday at the Bintumani is the dream of every progressive Sierra Leonean. At last the curtains have been drawn down on hate, malice, and unhealthy political banter. I hope members of other political parties will find reasons to join the Alliance for the betterment of mama Salone.

“As the leader of the NGC Youth Wing, my executive and the entire young generation of our party wholeheartedly endorsed the Alliance and have made a commitment to work within the framework of the Alliance document.

“I therefore ask my brothers and sisters on the SLPP side to be ready to work with us together to ensure this dream becomes a reality. This alliance is about our future, the future of every youth and kid of Sierra Leone. Let us breed a culture of healthy political contests; let us disagree to agree that Sierra Leone is our collective responsibility and we must work together for the general good.

“Personally, I want to thank my elder Sister Her Excellency the First Lady Madam Fatima Jabbe-Bio. She has been very instrumental standing by her man to ensure that this dream comes to life.

“When our mother the late Mrs Philo Yumkella was alive they used to engage a lot and do their traditional African women gossip on how to get their husbands to work together.

“May God bless them both and I know where Mommy Philo will be right now; she will be so happy. I wish she was at the signing program to dance on stage with KKY and perhaps miming one of her best songs by Bob Marley “One Love”.

“Young Men and Ladies of this great Republic I endorse the re-election of HE President Bio and support his national cohesion drive.”

Njala University Principal Pledges Commitment to Do More

Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University
Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University

Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, has assured his commitment to steering Bonthe Campus to a place where aspirations are fulfilled, socioeconomic development is stimulated, and individuals have the opportunity to realise their full potential and make meaningful contributions to society.

Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma gave these assurances at the inauguration ceremony of Njala University’s newest campus, the Bonthe Campus, held at the Grounds of the former Bonthe Technical Training College, Monument Lane, Shebro Island, Bonthe.

The Vice-Chancellor and Principal revealed the University’s plan to establish two schools and institutes, including the schools of maritime studies, sustainable tourism and hospitality management, as well as the institutes of technical entrepreneurship and vocational studies and teacher education.

The three departments that make up the School of Maritime Studies, according to Professor Bashiru Koroma, are the Department of Marine Sciences and Coastal Agriculture, the Department of Maritime Management and Logistics, and the Department of Marine Engineering and Navigation. He added that the School of Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Management would house the Departments of Tourism and Travel Management, Hospitality Management and Catering Science, and the Department of Cultural Heritage Studies.

“The University is now embarking on an exciting campus establishment at the Sherbro Island that stands to generate enormous benefits at local and national levels,” Professor Koroma said.

The School of Maritime Studies will undoubtedly address the significant human capacity gaps in Sierra Leone’s blue economy sectors, VC&P mentioned. He continued, “This economic concept promotes sustainable utilisation of ocean resources for economic growth, food security, job creation, energy generation, water transportation, and protection of the marine environment for future generations.”

Professor Koroma reaffirmed that the University has the drive and determination to pursue and realise the institution’s ultimate goals and aspirations, but added that doing so requires the Government of Sierra Leone (GOSL), friends of Bonthe Campus, stakeholders of the Bonthe Sherbro Island and Bonthe District, as well as the Government’s bilateral agencies, to work together to develop a consensus.

“We need student and staff accommodation, ICT infrastructure, water and land transportation for access to the Campus, as well as teaching and learning equipment, fully equipped laboratories, technical workshops, training simulators, seafarer training facilities and vessels.  Let us all work together and realise the fruition of a project that will have tremendous impact on generations to come,” Professor averred.

Pres. Bio Committed to Protecting Exclusive Economic Zone

Murray Town, Freetown, Monday 24 April 2023 – His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio has commissioned a brand new 26.7-meter-long Mammy Yoko offshore navy patrol vessel with a 14.5-mm calibrated weapon with an endurance of a week at sea.

The vessel is a gift from the People’s Republic of China to the Government of Sierra Leone as a result of the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, which has been strengthened by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and President Xi Jinping of China in the last five years.

President Julius Maada Bio extended the country’s profound gratitude to President Xi Jinping and the government and people of the People’s Republic of China for cementing the two countries’ bonds of solidarity and mutual cooperation.

“We appreciate the long-standing friendship that is based on mutual trust, respect, and the major pursuit of a shared future. With the support and cooperation of the People’s Republic of China, we have pursued an agenda of multilateralism, peace, stability, and mutual cooperation in making progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Since 1971, the government and people of the People’s Republic of China have provided substantial development support in areas of infrastructure, agriculture, education, technical training, healthcare, electricity, small-scale manufacturing, diplomacy, direct foreign investment, and security, among others.

“The delivery of engineering equipment, the overseas training, and the medical mission that have significantly enhanced the capacity of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, RSLAF, for purpose and many more interventions in the security sector, permit me, through the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, to unreservedly thank President Xi Jinping and the government and people of the People’s Republic of China,” the President said.

The President recalled how in 1986, the People’s Republic of China, through the Shanghai Class Two project, offered Sierra Leone an offshore patrol vessel, demonstrating how far the two countries had enjoyed a mutual bilateral relationship, an indication of how positively and consistently China had been committed to developing the country’s Marine Time Wing of the RSLAF.

“This offshore patrol vessel is in line with my government’s 2018 manifesto commitment. This gift today is particularly significant because it strengthens our offshore capacity in a number of significant ways. It supports the blue economy agenda as laid out in our country’s development plan as it augments our marine time wings’ ability to monitor and surveil our territorial waters, including our country’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Sierra Leone has been struggling to control illegal, unreported, and unregistered fishing on our territorial waters.

“This offshore capacity will obviously reduce the risk and deter those crimes in our marine time domain. Also, as part of our regional initiative to keep the Gulf of Guinea secure, Sierra Leone participated in the ECOWAS Multi-Countries Support to West Africa Integrated Marine Time Security Program.

“This patrol vessel will reduce the risk of shipping and reduce the cost of shipping to the nation, it will boast the country’s offshore capacity, search, and rescue, enable our water to be safer, enable the wing to respond to stress calls, and provide other advantages to the nation,” the president explained.

He added that the gifted C-class patrol craft was an icon of robustness and fortitude and was truly a thing of beauty as she effortlessly and gracefully sat atop and dominated the waves.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the RSLAF, it is, therefore, my singular honour to admit Navy Patrol Boat PD 106 into the operational fleet of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces as Madam Yoko,” the President concluded.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, said the gift to Sierra Leone was a demonstration of the shared views both countries enjoyed in their longstanding friendship and cooperation in the military-to-military sector. He said the strategic guidance from the two presidents had led to the vessel and other good, friendly gifts.

“His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio, I would like to congratulate you on this memorable event and for your steward’s leadership, strategic guidance, and personal attention to enhance the friendship and cooperation between our two countries. I want to appreciate our Chinese military team, who, since the arrival of the vessel has been in the country to share expertise with the Sierra Leone Navy on how to operate the vessel and the machine in the best way professionally.

“Since President Bio’s safe visit to China in 2018 to date, both leaders have promoted the bilateral relationship to a higher level that gears towards promoting a south-south relationship based on mutual trust. We support each other to overcome all challenges in the new era of development, and Sierra Leone will continue to be the strongest and most reliable partner of China,” he reiterated.

Freetown: Why You Should Visit the Historic Capital of Sierra Leone

Spectacular coastline, buzzing nightlife and charming people, Radhika Aligh explores the next must-visit city in West Africa

Twenty years after the end of the Civil War, Sierra Leone is exploring its tourism potential – and for good reason. Golden sand beaches, cultural and historic landmarks and eco-tourism initiatives are transforming the country into an exciting destination full of off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Freetown, the vibey capital, is an ideal starting point with well established hotels and boutique accommodations, a vibrant food scene, bustling markets and soft sand beaches where sunsets are picture-perfect. Located on the Atlantic coast of West Africa, the city was founded in 1792 by British abolitionists as a settlement for freed slaves. It has since grown into a buzzing urban centre with a diverse population of over one million.

Historic centre

The most famous landmark in Freetown is easy to miss, especially from inside a keke (tuk-tuk), navigating through the narrow, crowded streets in the shadow of colonial buildings. Cotton Tree, a giant kapok tree, which symbolises resilience and new beginnings, stands in the middle of a busy junction — all-consuming in its expanse. Former slaves arriving in Freetown would walk up from the shoreline to touch the tree and give thanks for their freedom.

Under the branches of the Cotton Tree is the National Museum of Sierra Leone. It was founded in 1957 to preserve and promote cultural heritage. The museum houses artefacts, including traditional masks, musical instruments, textiles, and archaeological finds from various parts of the country. Some of the most notable exhibits include displays of history, Atlantic slave trade and the colonial period. The museum also has a significant collection of ethnographic materials like clothing, jewellery, and pottery from several ethnic groups.

A much newer museum — and home to significantly larger artefacts — is the National Railway Museum. Sierra Leone started its first passenger train service to the provinces in 1898 and made its last journey in 1975. The disused locomotives and carriages languished in workshops for thirty years until they made their way to the museum in 2005. Dotted around the warehouse-like space is a fine collection of historical 2’6″ gauge railway locomotives, coaches and wagons engineered and built in the United Kingdom. Among the large carriages is also a functioning pump trolley (handcar), used back in the day to transport maintenance workers.

Two streets away from the museum is one of the most striking architectural structures: Old Fourah Bay College. It was established in 1827 as the first Western-style university in West Africa and is considered one of the oldest institutions of higher learning. The college was initially a Christian missionary school before developing into a full-fledged university. The derelict old campus, which still looks opulent, is set to go through a reconstruction facilitated by the World Monuments Fund.

Spectacular beaches

When Sierra Leoneans want to relax, they head to the beach. And with a whole coastline full of spectacular golden sand hideaways, there is plenty to choose from. The most popular is River No 2 which is particularly lively on a Sunday when hundreds of locals come down stocked with food and alcohol to last until the early hours of the morning. The free-for-all beach party concludes with singing and dancing around a huge bonfire set alight at midnight. River No 2 and neighbouring Tokeh Beach are also ideal for surfers looking to ride the Atlantic waves. Look back from the water to find forested rolling hills, the most idyllic backdrop to the sandy belt.

The coastline stretches for about 360 miles and is home to numerous fishing communities that use traditional fishing methods such as canoes, fishing nets, and lines to catch fish. Fishing is a primary economic activity for the local community in Kent, an hour away from Freetown, who typically catch tuna, mackerel, and barracuda to sell in local markets or export.

Most people pass through Kent to head to Banana Island a popular getaway for tired city dwellers ready to escape the hustle of modern life. The archipelago includes three islands: Dublin, Ricketts and MesMeheux, where visitors can indulge in snorkelling, scuba diving and kayaking. With no more than 600 inhabitants on the largest island, it is an intimate experience that allows travellers to slow down and explore the culture and traditions of this small community. Eco-tourism options are aplenty, with guesthouses and locally-led initiatives.

Wildlife and conservation

Thirty minutes from the old town, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary_is a rescue centre and conservation programme looking to protect wild chimpanzees and their habitat. The centre was born in 1995 when accountant-turned-conservationist BalaAmarasekaran and his wife Sharmila witnessed a weak and sick baby for sale on the outskirts of Freetown Thirtyyears on, the couple and their team ofveterinary doctors and rangers have created a safe space for hundreds of chimps by rehabilitating them in enclosures in semi-wild forested land.

“We do a lot of research in terms of where the distribution is, where the chimps are, what are the threats in those areas,” Bala tells me. The nationwide survey and census found between 5500 and 6000 chimpanzees, the second or third largest population of western chimpanzees worldwide. In 2019, after relentless campaign work, the government of Sierra Leone announced chimpanzees as the national animal – to shift focus from an image associated with the civil war and blood diamonds.

For Bala, the title comes with higher responsibility to educate people, build a harmonious relationship between apes and humans and preserve their habitat. “At the moment, we work with 93 communities to try and protect the community forest and with the National Protected Area Authority to turn around two of the national parks that have been in a bad state. We raise awareness in many schools through an environmental education curriculum, so even a primary school kid will learn about chimpanzees and the need to protect the environment.”

Buzzing nightlife

Lumley Beach is where the party never stops. Lining both sides of the coastal road are bars, restaurants and clubs entertaining visitors and locals into the early hours. It is also the best place to catch the most beautiful sunsets with your favourite tipple. Bag yourself a top deck seat and soak in the golden hour whilst watching a beach football game, a sport taken very seriously in Salone.

Snack on some Italian gelato at Gjgibontä Ice Cream and Pizzeria, or head two doors down to China Town restaurant – Lumley Beach is where the diversity is most on show. A huge number of Indian and Lebanese immigrants brought with them cuisines and flavours from thousands of miles away. You can savour some of it in dozens of restaurants across Freetown. Just off Lumley Beach, Bliss serves a range of curries alongside a tempting European and fusion menu in a tranquil garden setting.

Traditional dishes like okra, spicy krain-krain, plasas (green leafy stews), binch (black-eyed bean) and locally caught fish are a must-try in Sierra Leone. They grace the menu of most hotels, but the best places to dig into them are local eateries or street vendors. At busy junctions and crossroads like Waterloo, you will find women approaching cars trying to flog fried cassava bread with fish gravy the flavours are unique to this part of Africa. Other street food dishes include sweet cakes and foofoo (or fufu) made with fermented cassava.

Cole Street Guesthouse opened its doors to the public in 2021 with the first gourmet restaurant entirely dedicated to traditional cuisine. Its chef and co-owner MiattaMarke left her legal job in London to return home to honour her roots and her grandmother Lati Hyde-Forster MBE, the first woman in Sierra Leone to graduate from university.

Through her homely dishes like Fourah (sweet rice flour dumplings) and Huntu (steamed cornmeal, spring onion and prawn dumplings), she pays homage to the flavours of her motherland.

Where to stay

A short walk from buzzing Lumley Beach, Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel is a secure and comfortable boarding option for those wanting to be in the thick of it. Take a dip in the ocean or chill by the outdoor pool. An indoor gym and two tennis courts have your workout regime covered while your nutrition is looked after by The Deck, their in-house restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

All 171 rooms, from Standard to Business and Diplomatic to Presidential Suite, come with a balcony overlooking either the sea or the gardens and are decorated in modern neutral tones. The hotel is also home to a coffee shop and Baw Baw Bar, where cold beers and cocktails offer respite from the scorching heat.

She was recently conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Christian Leadership as well as awarded a World Civility Ambassador Award. Apart from her being a Reverend, she is also an author who has penned down 12 books.

The highly regarded Reverend was born on 23rd July 1992 in Huruma, Eastlands Estate, Nairobi, Kenya. She had a rather humble upbringing and the wealth she has today has nothing to do with where she is from. Some people say Rev. Lucy is a Rwandese but she has come forward and cleared the air, affirming that she is a Kenyan citizen.

Reverend Lucy Natasha is a Kenyan religious personality, who doubles as a Pastor and author. She is particularly notable for her ministerial role in the Prophetic Latter Glory Ministries International. The beauty of her fame is evident in Lucy Natasha’s biography.

Apart from her mission work, Natasha is a respected public speaker with a strong appeal in international Christian conventions. She is truly talented when it comes to spreading the gospel and uplifting burdened souls.

Her husband is Prophet Stanley Carmel and she has two siblings.

Natasha is a warm-hearted preacher with vigour and conviction in the gospel. She is equally beautiful and highly educated for her calling in the heavenly vineyard.

The youthful female Reverend, who grew up in Huruma Estate within East Lands – Nairobi, is lately taking the Ministry of Faith by storm.

Natasha completed her primary and secondary education at Umoja. She then travelled to South Africa for higher studies.

In the end, Lucy Natasha graduated with a degree in Public Relations and Theology. She has since returned to Kenya and managed to establish a huge pastoral following.

A talent of ministering runs in the family lineage like her divorced mother and father. Natasha’s grandmother was a determined Pastor.

Pastor Lucy Natasha’s wedding with Prophet Stanley Carmel took place in January 2022. The excited couple walked down the aisle in a traditional ceremony following a lit proposal in the middle of a church event.

A stammering Natasha discovered her talent at the age of 10 years. Lucy claims herself a fulfillment of a family-specific prophecy pointing to the uprising of a preacher.

Upon rising in 2011, Lucy has preached in overseas destinations such as Doha-Qatar, Nigeria, Malawi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Leicester, and the Birmingham-United Kingdom to name a few.

The anointed Woman of God recounts a long list of blessings among them riding in private jets. On top of that is a successful Ministry; backed with a fleet of cool cars and homely mansions.

She is only getting richer with a steadily rising congregation and a cross-border ministry.

Credible sources estimate Rev. Lucy Natasha’s net worth in Kenya Shillings as 50 Million. Even then, her salary and proceeds from the church remain unconfirmed.

Rev. Lucy Natasha’s biography spells the success of a dedicated woman with a passion for winning. She can only do better following the exchange of rings with Prophet Stanley Carmel.

Citizens Must Heed ONS Boss’ Warning

National Security

By Amin Kef (Ranger)

It is a fact that the man who is at the helm of the Security Sector Coordination Unit – Office of National Security (ONS) in Sierra Leone, Abdulai Caulker is seldom heard.

Even when there are critical insecurity issues which need his input, or at least for him to say a few words, he delegates that to another staff or at most times, it is the Director of Communications that walks the gauntlet.

That said, the ONS under the auspices of its National Security Coordinator (NSCoord) ,Abdulai Caulker, recently invited journalists to inform them of his plans for a secured and peaceful conduct of the coming elections and to also speak on other matters.

Amongst several pertinent issues he raised was the one about the Social Media being the tool used by ill-motivated and unscrupulous Sierra Leoneans, especially those living abroad, to spread hate, mistrust for Government institutions and other propaganda aimed at distorting the peace, creating confusion and eventually causing dysfunctions in the State Governance apparatus.

He mentioned that the ONS is well-prepared and thoroughly equipped to snuff out those ill-motivated people out there who take pleasure in fuelling disinformation and misinformation to hapless youths in the country who believe what they tell them and act on what they are told to do.

It is good to note that the warnings coming from the ONS Boss are coming at a time when the June 24 General Elections are a couple of months away. He warned also that those that stand in the way of Sierra Leone conducting a peaceful election will only have themselves to blame when they are caught doing anything and everything that goes against electoral laws of the land including the cybercrime and security laws.

Also, good is the fact that the ONS boss did not only have warnings for citizens. He also had words of caution for politicians who are in the habit of treating election matters as if it is their personal property to be treated as they wish. He used the opportunity to prevail on all politicians in every political party to go strictly by the electoral calendar and by the electoral laws or have him or herself to blame.

A word for the wise…

Africell Launches “The Wave Yu Flag Promotion”

As Sierra Leone will be celebrating its Sixty-Second Independence Anniversary Celebration on the 27th April, 2023, Africell-Sierra Leone has launched, “The Wave Yu Flag” Independence Promotion in a quest to give back to their valuable subscribers.
