Prof. Foday Sahr To Spearhead Fight Against Drug & Substance Abuse

In a recent announcement from State House, Brigadier General Prof. Foday Sahr has been appointed as the National Coordinator of the National Task Force on Drug and Substance Abuse by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

Prof. Sahr, known for his exceptional leadership and expertise, will spearhead efforts to address drug and substance abuse by coordinating actions across various ministries and sectors. President Bio’s outlined pillars of focus include prevention, care and treatment, social support, law enforcement, and community engagement.

With a background spanning governance, security, and medical fields, Prof. Sahr’s experience is highlighted by his pivotal role in the Ebola and COVID-19 responses in Sierra Leone. His significant contributions during the Ebola outbreak led to a notable reduction in mortality rates through revolutionary treatment protocols.

Having served in key positions such as Vice Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone and Surgeon General of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Prof. Sahr currently holds the position of Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency.

This appointment reflects President Bio’s dedication to tackling drug and substance abuse, underscoring a strong commitment to public health. Prof. Sahr’s leadership is expected to drive impactful change, fostering progress and community transformation in the fight against substance abuse.
