The Deputy Minister of Sports, Kai Lawrence Mbayo (KLM), is facing serious allegations of Cyberbullying aimed at the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, drawing widespread condemnation for actions deemed unethical and unprofessional for a public official. Within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in Kono District, there are growing calls for KLM’s immediate dismissal by President Julius Maada Bio due to his disrespectful conduct, which has damaged the Vice President’s reputation.

The controversy stemmed from a viral video in which KLM accused Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh of using his influence to secure the release of individuals involved in a legal case over a disputed diamond. KLM claimed that the suspects were freed from CID custody due to the Vice President’s personal connections with them. However, critics quickly dismissed these allegations as unfounded, pointing out the lack of evidence to support his claims.

The situation was further complicated by KLM’s admission that he personally reached out to Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh regarding the suspects’ release. This contradiction led to speculation that KLM’s accusations were not rooted in any genuine concern for justice, but rather in personal frustration. Experts suggest that delays in the case, which is still under investigation, are more likely due to the complexities of the legal process rather than any political interference.

KLM’s timing in making these allegations, especially while his own involvement in the diamond case is under scrutiny, some have asserted, raised further questions about his intentions. His public outcry, instead of seeking resolution through proper channels, appeared to be aimed at tarnishing Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh’s reputation for personal gain, they decried adding how his attempts to link the Vice President to unrelated past cases have also been criticized as baseless and misleading, ultimately weakening his position.

In light of these developments, many SLPP supporters are urging for KLM to be suspended pending an investigation into the Cyberbullying allegations. They insist on a transparent inquiry to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of public office in Sierra Leone. Should the claims be substantiated, KLM must face strict disciplinary measures, including possible dismissal and be held accountable under relevant cyber laws.

While KLM has reportedly issued an apology to the Vice President, it is widely seen as insufficient. His apology, tendered in private, does not mitigate the reputational damage caused by his public accusations. SLPP supporters suggest that to truly demonstrate accountability, KLM should use the same platform that facilitated his Cyberbullying, social media, to issue a public, viral apology. He must clearly state how he wronged the Vice President, make amends publicly and restore the trust he has eroded, not only within the Government but also with the citizens of Sierra Leone.

The integrity of the nation’s leadership hinges on respect and professionalism and KLM’s actions have underscored the urgent need for public servants to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, both online and offline, the supporters frankly maintained.
