It has been confirmed by the elders of Mile 91 community in the Tonkolili district, Northeast of Sierra Leone, that one Ibrahim Kamara has escaped to an unknown destination for fear of being killed by community people after being caught in gay activities.
The Section Chief of Mile 91, Pa Alimamy Koroma said Ibrahim was staying with his Uncle Pa Alpha Kamara who is also the Chief Iman of the Mile 91 Central Mosque.
He said Ibrahim who is brought up by his Uncle became disappointed and frustrated over the manner his Uncle’s wife Hawa Lakkoh is treating his Uncle.
This negative development the Chief said prompted Ibrahim not to married any woman and instead decided to practice gay with his male friend Mohamed Conteh.
“This development did not go down well with community people and family members who decided to shun Ibrahim for his action.
“I will never married a woman because of the way my Uncle’s wife is treating her husband. I prefer to be gay than have a woman in my house,” Ibrahim was quoted to have said in a family meeting.
This statement according to the Chief, was vehemently rejected by the family on the grounds that they are coming from a religious background and the action is criminal in the law books of Sierra Leone.
Chief Koroma quoted the national laws of the country which states that anybody arrested, charged to court and found guilty of practicing gay will get not less than fifty years inprisonment with hard labour.
He said the family threatened to shun Ibrahim for his action while the irate youths in the community vowed to lynch him for practicing gay which they noted contravenes the national, religious and traditional laws governing the country.
The Chief accused the family of poisoning Ibrahim’s food on Saturday night but fortunately he did not eat the food.
He said the following day, Ibrahim gave the same food to his dog who ate it and died few hours later.
He said a post mortem examination conducted on the deceased dog revealed that he ate poisoned food which was meant to kill Ibrahim if he had eaten it.
He said after realizing that his life is at stake, Ibrahim later abandoned Mile 91 for Mathoir village some fifty eight kilometers from Mile 91 to seek refuge but the irate youths also chased him there for what they described as bringing shame to the family and community.
This latest development prompted Ibrahim to leave Mathoir Village again for an unknown destination to seek refuge. Since his whereabout remains unknown, family members have expressed serious concern about his safety.
