March 31, 2024 Deadline is Drawing Closer to Obtain Your Biometric ID Cards

By Amin Kef (Ranger)

Sierra Leone is on a transformative path towards enhanced security and streamlined transactions with the ongoing issuance of Biometric ID Cards. Citizens and Non-Citizens alike must obtain them by March 31, 2024. These Securitized and Multi-purpose Biometric Identity Cards, coupled with an advanced ID Verification System, mark a significant step towards citizen safety and simplifying daily transactions nationwide.

The primary aim of this initiative is twofold: to strengthen citizen safety and facilitate local transactions. These Biometric ID cards, now mandatory at checkpoints nationwide, not only serve as identification but also secure repositories for personal information. They prioritize individual rights while granting access to essential services. More than mere cards, these IDs symbolize a future of boundless opportunities. The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) emphasizes that the national ID card isn’t just for identification; it’s a key to a future where convenience and security prevail.

The implementation of this innovative ID system promises citizens seamless and secure transactions, ensuring convenience for every cardholder. Therefore, the NCRA strongly urges citizens to obtain their National ID Cards from any NCRA branch, highlighting the power and convenience these cards offer in today’s dynamic landscape.

To simplify the application process, citizens are encouraged to visit specific NCRA Offices and designated Centers across the nation:

  1. NCRA Headquarters: 2 Walpole Street, Freetown.
  2. NCRA Office: 23B Off Kingharman Road, Freetown.
  3. NCRA Office: Kennedy Street, Freetown.
  4. NCRA Branch Office: 230 Lumley Road, Freetown (By the Round & About).
  5. NCRA Office: Waterloo along the Freetown High Way (Opposite the Police Station).
  6. NCRA Offices: Respective Regional Headquarter Towns of Bo, Kenema, Makeni, and Port Loko.

To enhance accessibility, the NCRA has introduced corporate services tailored for organizations and institutions such as Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), Foreign Missions, and Financial Institutions. For detailed information on these corporate services, interested parties can contact the following numbers: +232-33-433-333 / +232-30-500-000 / +232-60-000 / +232-78-221-812 or via EMAIL: idverification@ncra.gov.

The introduction of biometric national identity cards underscores the Government’s commitment to fostering a safer, more efficient, and accessible environment for all Sierra Leoneans, empowering both individuals and organizations.
