NP (SL) Boosts Energy Pass Card Awareness in Kenema and Bo with Engaging Roadshows
By Amin Kef (Ranger)
Taking bold strides in its mission to digitize and modernize fuel transactions across Sierra Leone, NP (SL) Limited has brought its high-impact Energy Pass Card awareness campaign to the bustling regional centers of Kenema and Bo. Through vibrant and well-attended roadshows, the company is deepening its engagement with motorists, commercial riders, business owners and public institutions, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive service delivery and digital advancement.
The roadshows provided an engaging platform for educating the public about the groundbreaking NP Energy Pass Card; a prepaid, fuel-specific digital card that is redefining how Sierra Leoneans manage fuel purchases. More than a payment method, the card represents a powerful shift toward secure, cashless and efficient fuel procurement that benefits both individual users and large-scale fleet operators.
Communities across Kenema and Bo responded enthusiastically as NP (SL)’s outreach team demonstrated the card’s features and advantages. Users were introduced to a seamless system where funds can be preloaded onto the card and used exclusively at NP Filling Stations. Every transaction is recorded digitally, capturing key details such as volume, cost, time and location. This functionality gives private motorists better budgeting control and allows institutions to maintain complete transparency and oversight of fuel expenditures.
A key highlight of the campaign was the card’s immense value to organizations managing multiple vehicles. With each vehicle or driver assigned a unique card, managers can monitor fuel use in real time, impose spending limits and easily reconcile records without relying on manual or paper-based tracking. This not only streamlines operations but also significantly reduces the risk of misuse or leakage of fuel resources.
Audience members praised the system’s strong security framework. Every card is PIN-protected and can be swiftly deactivated in case of loss or theft. NP’s responsive customer care team ensures that any compromised card can be blocked and the remaining balance transferred safely to a new one. This assurance of financial protection further cemented trust in the product among both commercial and institutional users.
The exclusivity of the Energy Pass Card to NP’s network of authorized stations is another strength that was emphasized during the roadshows. Customers benefit from consistent product quality and professional service standards across all NP outlets. Whether in Kenema, Bo, Freetown, Makeni or other locations, cardholders enjoy reliable access to clean, high-grade fuel under a system that values accountability and customer satisfaction.
Enrollment in the program remains easy and accessible. Individuals only need valid identification to register, while corporate bodies provide business documentation and a list of approved users. Once registration is complete, cards are activated instantly, with top-up services available at NP stations and partner banks. NP’s team also offers ongoing support for account setup, technical assistance and user education, ensuring that no customer is left behind on the journey toward digital empowerment.
By bringing the Energy Pass Card campaign to Kenema and Bo, NP (SL) is not only promoting innovation but also bridging regional gaps in access to modern fuel solutions. These roadshows affirm the company’s role as a trailblazer in Sierra Leone’s petroleum industry and its determination to extend the benefits of smart technology to all corners of the country.
The Energy Pass Card is transforming the way Sierra Leone fuels its journey; making every transaction safer, smarter and more accountable. Through consistent outreach and community engagement, NP (SL) continues to lead from the front, proving that the path to progress lies in bold innovation matched with a deep understanding of the people it serves.

OFP Launches Historic Sensory Room for Children with Multiple Disabilities
By Foday Moriba Conteh
One Family People (OFP) has taken a historic step forward in promoting inclusivity and supporting children with severe and multiple disabilities by officially opening Sierra Leone’s first-ever sensory room. Supported by Liliane Fonds, Miva, Il Giardino di Ngali2, the Champions Club of Sierra Leone, and the Ministry of Social Welfare, the landmark event took place on Friday, May 30, 2025, in Grafton, marking a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to providing equitable care and developmental opportunities for all children.
The newly inaugurated sensory room offers a dedicated and nurturing environment where children with complex disabilities can freely play, express themselves, and develop essential skills. Equipped with specialized tools designed to stimulate cognitive growth, enhance emotional well-being, and promote motor skills, this facility addresses a critical gap in disability care services across Sierra Leone.
In his remarks, Edward Emmanuel, Executive Director of One Family People, expressed deep gratitude to all partners and supporters whose unwavering dedication over three to four years made the project possible.
He described the sensory room as a powerful symbol of love, inclusion, and belief in the abilities of every child, urging society to recognize children with disabilities as valuable and essential members of the community.
Pastor Craig Johnson, founder of the Champions Club in Sierra Leone, hailed the launch as a significant milestone and praised Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty for her relentless advocacy.
Delivering greetings from Pastor Joel Victoria and the Lakewood Church community, USA, he emphasized that children with disabilities are champions and masterpieces, highlighting the inspiring journey of Connor, a young man who lives independently and is gainfully employed.
Pastor Johnson also presented motivational books titled You Are Extraordinary to encourage the children’s self-worth and potential.
Luciano Vanti, representing NADIA Onlou Italy, commended the collaborative spirit behind the initiative and expressed hope that the sensory room would uplift children and families from all backgrounds. He thanked every stakeholder involved, noting that the project reflects a divine purpose that will continue to inspire support.
In her keynote address, Melrose Karminty, Minister of Social Welfare reaffirmed that disability does not equal inability while commending the Champions Club and partners for their commitment. She connected the initiative to the government’s focus on inclusivity, a core pillar of President Julius Maada Bio’s free quality education agenda.
Drawing from her participation at the Global Disability Summit in Berlin, the Minister highlighted Sierra Leone’s endorsement of the Berlin Declaration, which calls for 15 percent of foreign aid to be directed toward disability support. She assured that the government is committed to ensuring no child is left behind regardless of ability.
Announcing a forthcoming social work regulatory law, Minister Karminty emphasized the need to professionalize care services and safeguard children from abuse in care centers.
She shared a touching story of a mother who defied societal pressures by choosing love and perseverance over abandonment, resulting in her child’s thriving. “Parents must accept and support their children with challenges,” the Minister urged. “God sees their effort, and the government will continue to support every child to thrive.”
The launch of this sensory room goes beyond a physical space; it represents a fundamental shift in Sierra Leone’s approach toward children with disabilities, moving from neglect and stigma to compassion, empowerment, and inclusion. This facility stands as a testament to the nation’s resolve to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow, dream, and succeed.

IB Kargbo Highlights VP Juldeh Jalloh as Strong Presidential Material
By Amin Kef-Ranger
As the political landscape in Sierra Leone begins to shape up ahead of the 2028 General Elections, prominent journalist and seasoned politician Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo (IB Kargbo) has made a thought-provoking assessment of potential presidential aspirants from both the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC).
Speaking in an exclusive political commentary, IB Kargbo emphasized that political experience, academic qualification and unwavering loyalty to both party and nation should be key determinants when evaluating who is fit to ascend to the highest office in the land.
In his evaluation, Hon. I.B Kargbo spotlighted three credible presidential materials from each of the two main political parties, with special focus placed on the current Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, describing his candidacy as one that could potentially defy Sierra Leone’s long-standing political norm where no Vice President has ever succeeded a sitting President.
“Since the creation of the Executive Presidency in Sierra Leone, no Vice President has ever succeeded a sitting President. This makes Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh’s case uniquely significant,” Hon. I.B Kargbo noted.
According to the veteran politician, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh meets all the academic benchmarks expected of a modern-day leader. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Fourah Bay College (University of Sierra Leone), a Master’s degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and a Doctorate (PhD) from the University of Bordeaux in France earned through rigorous academic research, not honorary recognition.
“In a region where many political leaders rely on honorary doctorates, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh stands out for having earned his credentials through diligence and scholarly excellence,” I.B Kargbo emphasized.
Beyond his academic accolades, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh’s career is anchored in extensive international experience, particularly with the United Nations. He has served as a Senior Political Officer in the UN mission in Mali and was the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel. His early career included work as an electoral officer in Kosovo during one of the most sensitive periods in the region’s post-conflict history.
“His UN background in governance and security matters has served the nation well, especially during tense national moments. He came to the position of Vice President fully prepared and has demonstrated competence in managing delicate national assignments,” said I.B Kargbo.
Highlighting a concrete example of his leadership, the veteran politician recalled the August 10 crisis, when Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh was Acting President. “He skillfully mobilized the security forces to restore peace and stability, evidence of his ability to lead under pressure,” I.B Kargbo noted.
Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh also played a pivotal role as head of the MCC Compact Development Unit. Under his leadership, Sierra Leone qualified for a grant worth nearly $400 million from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation. While implementation of the grant has faced delays, I.B Kargbo insists the success in securing the compact was a major policy win, directly attributable to Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh’s leadership and diplomatic skills.
Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, a native of Port Loko District, is widely admired in his home region as a humble and accessible leader. His deep roots in both the Northwest and Kono, where he spent his formative years, have enhanced his cross-regional appeal. Fluent in multiple languages including English, French, Temne and his native Fullah, he is regarded as a true pan-national figure.
“His accessibility and humility have earned him the loyalty of ordinary citizens,” Hon. I.B Kargbo noted, describing him as “the poor man’s friend.”
As the 2028 elections approach, questions loom about the SLPP’s succession plan. On this, Hon.I.B Kargbo asserts that Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh’s loyalty to the SLPP and to President Julius Maada Bio cannot be questioned. He has served diligently, always putting the party’s interest and national unity above personal ambition.
“Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has never allowed personal ego to interfere with state duties. He respects the President, works hard and remains committed to the party’s ideals. That makes him a formidable candidate for the future,” Hon I.B Kargbo emphasized.
A senior SLPP stalwart, when interviewed, stated: “The reason I would support Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh is simple; he has the potential to unify Sierra Leone and keep the SLPP strong and cohesive.”
Summing up his analysis, Hon. IB Kargbo stated, “In modern governance, experience is invaluable. Leaders must be tested, trained and exposed to global best practices. Few in Sierra Leone’s current political arena can match Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh in both experience and academic credentials.”
With the right political backing and party consensus, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh may indeed break the long-standing myth of vice presidential succession and become a compelling contender for Sierra Leone’s highest office.
Oversight Missions Confirm Pavi Fort’s Genuine Project Work, Disproving Ghost Project Claims
By Foday Moriba Conteh
Recent allegations accusing Pavi Fort AL-Associates Group Ltd of executing “ghost projects” and receiving payments for them have been proven false. Independent oversight missions and official evaluations conducted between 2023 and 2025 have thoroughly disproved these claims. Instead, these assessments have highlighted Pavi Fort AL-Associates Group Ltd as a leading example of excellence in Sierra Leone’s infrastructure development sector.
One of the most compelling rebuttals to these claims is the Kono-Kurubola-Kabala Road Project; a major infrastructure undertaking covering 261 kilometers and designed to connect the districts of Koinadugu, Falaba and Kono. This transformative highway, also referred to by its strategic purpose as the 261-kilometer highway linking Koinadugu, Falaba and Kono Districts, was commissioned by President Julius Maada Bio on May 19, 2023, in Dogoloyia Town, Koinadugu District. It has become a cornerstone of regional integration.
The project not only enhances travel efficiency and accessibility but also stimulates economic activities in some of the country’s most underserved regions. As of mid-2024, approximately 74% of the first 61-kilometer segment from Kabala to Limbaya Junction has been completed, including 44 kilometers of pavement with bridge construction underway. Despite delays during the rainy season, construction continues under close supervision by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and other oversight bodies. Beyond physical progress, the project has generated substantial employment and is widely viewed as a catalyst for long-term development.
The earliest of these validation moments came on the very day of its recommissioning, May 19, 2023, when His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio officially launched this landmark highway. The road dramatically improved travel time, slashed transportation costs and enhanced access to social services for thousands in the northern region. The significance of this achievement cannot be overstated. It was a tangible response to decades of isolation suffered by communities in those districts and a major step forward in regional connectivity and national unity.
Building on that momentum, in late 2023, Pavi Fort successfully completed key components of the World Bank-funded Integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project (IRUMP) in Freetown. The company revamped three major roundabouts, Kissy Ferry Junction, Congo Cross and Lumley, effectively improving urban traffic flow. The quality of the work drew praise from municipal authorities and development partners alike. Additionally, the company carried out extensive street maintenance in the capital and completed the refurbishment of a hospital in Port Loko, donated by the United Arab Emirates, reaffirming its capability to deliver across multiple infrastructure domains.
By June 8 and 9, 2024, the Parliamentary Committee on Works and Public Assets, led by Honourable Ing. Habib Fabbah, Deputy Chairman, undertook detailed inspections of ongoing Pavi Fort road projects in Kenema and Kabala. The Committee found that 74 percent of the Kenema Township Road Project had already been completed, meeting high technical standards. Honourable Ing. Habib Fabbah commended the quality, pace and professionalism of the work and assured the public that engineers from the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and Parliament were maintaining stringent oversight.
In Kenema, Alimu Sanu Barrie, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pavi Fort, revealed that 20 out of 25 kilometers of planned road had already been completed, with final delivery expected by December 2024.
In Kabala, the company had already delivered the full scope of its road construction, overcoming material supply challenges with admirable resilience. These projects not only advanced regional infrastructure but also generated over 600 direct jobs, with hundreds more benefitting through local subcontracting.
The most recent and perhaps most decisive oversight event occurred on Saturday, 3rd May 2025, when Honourable Sallieu Osman Sesay, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Food Security and Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, jointly led a mission to Torma Bum in Bonthe District. The visit focused on the ongoing Torma Bum Sector 1 and 2 irrigation and 17-kilometer rural road initiative, part of the Ministry’s Regional Rice Value Chain Project (RRVCP).
Despite receiving just $3.3 million of the $10.9 million contract, Pavi Fort had already delivered work worth nearly $6 million and completed more than 85 percent of Sector 1. The Committee, visibly impressed, described the work as “marvelous,” with Honourable Sallieu Osman Sesay calling it a model of Sierra Leonean capability in infrastructure delivery.
Commendations poured in from various quarters. Honourable Daniel B. Koroma, Mayor of Kenema Thomas Karimu Baio and Paramount Chief Honourable Alex Maada Kainpumu all lauded the company’s consistent execution, transparency and deep engagement with local communities. These leaders highlighted how Pavi Fort has not only built infrastructure but also trust, inclusion and national pride.
Such sweeping endorsements by Parliament, local authorities and community leaders render media claims of “ghost projects” not only inaccurate but dangerously misleading.
Pavi Fort AL-Associates Group Ltd, founded in 2015 and wholly owned by Sierra Leoneans, has completed over 20 major projects, employs more than 1,500 citizens and remains a pillar of the country’s Local Content Policy in action.
That a company with such a solid track record would be targeted by misinformation campaigns raises serious concerns about the protection of indigenous businesses striving for excellence. These allegations are not merely attacks on a company; they are threats to national development and the empowerment of local capacity.
The legacy of Pavi Fort is not a paper trail of contracts; it is a network of functioning roads, rehabilitated public facilities and thousands of lives improved through employment and access. These are not ghost projects. They are Sierra Leonean success stories written in concrete, asphalt, irrigation canals and community progress.
In another separate development, the Operations Manager of Pavi Fort, during a recent interview on Radio Democracy 98.1, on the 29 May, 2025 addressed a concern regarding alleged payment of $60M made to the company by the Government of Sierra Leone. He affirmed that Pavi Fort had received payments strictly for completed projects but categorically denied claims circulating on social media suggesting the company was paid a lump sum of Sixty Million US dollars.
While acknowledging that disbursements were made in accordance with contractual obligations, he was unable to provide a detailed breakdown of the amounts received. It has since been noted that he is not the right personnel to comment on financial matters related to the company.
His response has been misconstrued by some as being economical with the truth, which is not the case. The clarification was made within the limits of his role.
Sierra Leone faces a critical choice between lending credence to unverified allegations or recognizing progress grounded in verifiable outcomes. Independent oversight bodies have delivered a clear verdict; Pavi Fort is not only implementing projects but is also playing a pivotal role in advancing the country’s development trajectory.

He outlined key initiatives under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration aimed at modernizing Sierra Leone’s IP regime, including reforms to legal frameworks, capacity building and strategic partnerships with ARIPO and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Alpha Sesay also highlighted pressing issues such as counterfeit goods, brain drain and the misappropriation of indigenous knowledge, calling for harmonized regional IP policies, digital transformation of institutions and inclusive empowerment, especially for women and youth.

Ms. Martina Baindu Egbanda, Administrator and Registrar General, highlighted how transformative leadership is essential for turning IP into a tool for national progress. She pointed to successful initiatives such as the SmartKorpor digitized non-tax revenue system (supported by the African Development Bank), Albert Gulama’s Integrated Trade Services platform and innovations from local inventors.

She highlighted Sierra Leone’s proactive stance through the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Strategy (NIES), which she said aims to “attract innovation, empower creators and retain value.”
“Through regional cooperation with ARIPO, we must harmonize IP laws, protect our innovations and ensure African creators are rewarded—not just with applause, but with income,” she stressed.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Alpha Ibrahim Sesay, reinforced the view that IP is now a key driver of trade, economic growth and cultural identity. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to developing inclusive IP policies and infrastructure that support small businesses, women and young people, while promoting IP awareness throughout the education system.
The conference concluded with renewed commitments by ARIPO Member States to foster a more resilient, inclusive and innovation-driven IP landscape in Africa. Through robust leadership, regional cooperation and strategic investment in human capital, the continent aims to position itself as a hub of global creativity and technological advancement.
Orange CEO Inspires Student Gamers Ahead of National Esports Finale
By Ibrahim Sesay
Orange Sierra Leone took another significant step in championing youth empowerment and digital innovation as its Chief Executive Officer, Sekou Amadou Bah, met with student gamers from sixteen universities across the country on Wednesday May 28. The occasion, held at Orange’s headquarters on Hill Station, served as a powerful prelude to the highly anticipated Orange Esport Experience national competition finale scheduled for Friday May 30 at Family Kingdom in Aberdeen.
Addressing the young gamers with sincerity and pride, Sekou Amadou Bah, praised their dedication and resilience throughout the competition and reminded them that their journey was not defined by the platform but by their own abilities. He declared that if they had made it this far it was because of their talent and not because of Orange and he emphasized that Orange simply provided the space for their brilliance to shine. He reiterated the company’s mission to nurture a digitally inclusive future in Sierra Leone and stressed the importance of building lasting support systems for young talents. Sekou Amadou Bah affirmed that Orange is committed to creating digital platforms that elevate youth innovation and that the company is not only supporting startups but also embracing esports as a transformative tool for national development.
Launched in 2022 the Orange Esport Experience has grown to become the premier digital youth event in Sierra Leone bringing together top student gamers from universities across the country. Through a series of intra university qualifiers the best competitors have emerged to represent their institutions at the national level. The tournament focuses on FIFA video games and presents an opportunity for young Sierra Leoneans to compete on a national stage and to pursue global recognition through international competitions.
Claudius Roberts, who serves as President of the Electronic Sports Federation of Sierra Leone, emphasized the Federation’s partnership with Orange in maintaining transparency and fairness throughout the competition. He acknowledged the role of the Federation as the national regulatory body for electronic sports and noted that they are working to ensure the tournament upholds integrity and offers every participant a chance to grow and shine. Claudius Roberts confirmed that this year’s national champion will receive a grand prize of NLe 30000 and represent Sierra Leone at the prestigious Africa Game RS4 in Lagos Nigeria which stands among the continent’s leading esports events.
One of the most compelling voices among the student representatives was Mohamed Bailor Jalloh from Njala University who is widely recognized as the first Sierra Leonean to represent the country in an international esports tournament. Reflecting on his journey, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, expressed deep appreciation for the platform that Orange has created and said that his involvement in the Esport Experience has allowed him to grow as both a gamer and an individual. He acknowledged that the gaming culture in Sierra Leone was waning before Orange revived it in 2022 and he credited the initiative for giving new life and purpose to many young talents across the nation.
Looking to the future, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh revealed that this year’s competition might mark his final run as a player as he now hopes to mentor upcoming gamers and help them achieve the international exposure he has experienced. He noted that while Sierra Leone is home to remarkable talent, the nation still lacks the systems and guidance needed to propel its gamers onto the global stage. He said that through Orange and its continued investment in digital youth development he remains hopeful for lasting change and is committed to contributing even beyond his role as a competitor.
The Orange Esport Experience continues to grow as a vibrant symbol of what is possible when visionary leadership meets untapped youth potential. The upcoming grand finale on Friday is expected to celebrate more than just the crowning of a new champion as it also signals a defining moment in Sierra Leone’s journey toward digital transformation and greater global presence through the world of competitive gaming.

By Foday Moriba Conteh
A high-level all-party Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by H.E. Shri Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, is on an official two-day visit to Sierra Leone from May 28 to 30, 2025, aimed at deepening bilateral relations and enhancing global cooperation on counter-terrorism.
The visit comes in the wake of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists. In response, the Government of India has launched an extensive diplomatic outreach to engage international partners in the global fight against terrorism.

During their stay, the delegation is expected to hold high-level discussions with key Government officials of Sierra Leone, including:
- The Hon. Vice President
- The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament
- Members of Parliament

- The Hon. Deputy Minister of Defence
- The National Security Coordinator
In addition to political engagements, the delegation will also meet with representatives of the Sierra Leonean media and hold an outreach session with the Indian diaspora community, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to the welfare and interests of its citizens abroad.
India and Sierra Leone share a long-standing relationship grounded in mutual respect, democratic values and South-South cooperation. Both countries continue to collaborate on a wide range of issues, including capacity-building, development assistance and security.

He was accompanied by senior members of the delegation.
“This is not just about India,” Shri Shinde stated. “The April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives, was an attack on all of humanity. The victims included sole breadwinners, parents and children. It’s time the world comes together to confront terrorism wherever it exists.”
