Parliament Approves Jeneba Kpaka-Bangura as NRA New Commissioner General

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) ,on December 20th, 2023, witnessed a familiar face taking the helm as its newly approved Commissioner-General: Jeneba Kpaka Bangura (Mrs.). Her tenure in the tax administration and system within the country has been marked by significant achievements and digital advancements. Previously serving as the Deputy Commissioner-General from November 2018 to July 2023, Mrs. Bangura spearheaded the digitalization initiatives that transitioned manual processes into comprehensive digital systems at the NRA.

She boasts of an impressive career spanning over 25 years as a financial management expert, navigating the intricacies of public and financial policy across Government, private, and non-profit sectors. Her credentials include a Certified Public Accountant certification and a Masters’s degree in Public Administration.

Before assuming the role of Commissioner-General, Jeneba Kpaka Bangura dedicated five months to the position of Deputy Minister of Finance 1 within the Ministry of Finance. Her expertise in tax administration extends globally, being an active member of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), Women Tax Network (AWTIN) and recently elected as Vice-Chair for the AWTIN Board.

Following in the footsteps of Haja Kallah Kamara, the second female to hold this pivotal position (2009 – 2018),  Jeneba Kpaka Bangura brings a wealth of experience in Sierra Leone’s Tax Administration, Public Finance and Accounting. Her background in serving pivotal roles at the State Comptroller’s Office of New York and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, one of North America’s largest public transportation systems, positions her to revolutionize the NRA’s trajectory.

Regarded as a figure with exceptional, innovative and unconventional managerial prowess, Jeneba Kpaka Bangura spearheaded multiple reforms during her tenure as Deputy Commissioner-General.

Expectations are high as her poised professionalism, unwavering dedication and composed demeanor are anticipated to catalyze substantial growth and development within the NRA.

During the parliamentary approval session, legislators urged the new Commissioner-General to intensify revenue generation efforts and implement stringent professional standards in the nation’s tax administration.
